What is Hyrox?
Probably seen a lot on your feeds since the Manchester event last weekend.
It’s a fitness ‘race’ which isn’t really a race, but it can be!
There are 8 functional fitness stations separated by a 1km run.
Athletes of all abilities from pro to beginner take part in events across the world in indoor arenas, music is pumping and supporters can get right up in the action making it an event like no other.
Pro’s race for world titles, serious athletes race for podium spots while everyone else competes for fun.
The beauty of the sport is that is that everyone sets off at various times throughout the day in ‘waves’. Waves overlap so nobody knows your speed or position (unlike a running event like a park run, 10k or a marathon).
You run with a timing chip which records your time on every run and every station. Compete with friends, compete with yourself and if you like see your ranking in your age group🏃♀️
There is no rush to finish, average times are 90 minutes while many take there time and soak up the experience. You also have the opportunity to buy professionally taken pictures at different stages throughout your race (£36)📸
The functional fitness stations require low skill and as there different weights for women, men and pro, massive strength is not required🏋️♀️
I would definitely recommend training/coaching for a Hyrox race to prepare your body for the challenges of running then exercising then running etc but it really is achievable for everyone and will provide you with a great level of fitness and of course increased strength and a much improved physique💪
