Good evening People in and around Bude,

I wanted to write a few words to say thank you to all the wonderful people that I encountered in my work as a massage therapist over the past year. It has been a priviledge to help you to recharge mentally and physically, to work on areas that cause you aches, tension and pain, to give you a pause for a moment in your busy life and help you reset yourself to deal with what is ahead of you. Thank you for your trust!

I also wanted to introduce myself to those who might be looking for a massage therapist. So here is a little bit about my background:

After working for years as a general nurse in hospitals, hospices and community settings, I decided to train as a massage therapist with the wish to help people with the power of therapeutic touch. I initially trained in Swedish massage, a combination of massage techniques which work on soft tissues and muscles with a calming and balancing effect. Additionally I then trained in Deep Tissue Massage, which allows me to add techniques which work on the deeper layers of tissue.
Last autumn I decided to train in Oncology Massage as so many people who are affected by cancer get declined the option of a massage during their illness and often for quite sometime after. But dealing with the mental and physical demands of cancer and its treatments, or the recovery from it, is a time where a massage can give a greater sense of wellbeing and be a supportive and safe space to be.

I strongly believe that helping muscles to relax, loosening areas of adhesions and retraining our posture we can regain more functionality in our bodies. But not just that - probably a bigger part of helping our body is to pay attention to our mind and allow ourselves to take care of ourselves.

Please get in touch with me if you have any questions or are interested in booking a treatment. It would be lovely to hear from you.

Mondays and Tuesdays I work in my therapy space in the centre of Marhamchurch. Other weekdays I offer mobile treatments.

As a massage therapist, and former nurse, the power of touch has always fascinated me. What is it, that makes it so comforting if someone warmly holds our hand in a difficult moment or why do or don't we instantly make a connection with someone based on the quality of their handshake?

Our skin is a powerful organ of communication and just like when verbal communication is missing in our life, lack of touch and communication through our skin can leave us feeling deprived of something, disconnected from our body and not fully cared for. We all remember the Covid times, when we could not hug our nan, cuddle our grandchild, give a friend an encouraging back slap or shake the hand of someone we really wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to. This is what touch does: It connects, it speaks and it calms. And when it's missing, we miss something!

The other side of touch is that the tissues of the body communicate back. As a perceptive and well trained massage therapist we often can feel when a muscle is tired, when tissues aren't supple, when joints are locked or when stress and tension hold the tissue rigid, but we also feel when touch releases something, when we let our hands sink, rather than force into the tissues, that they thank us for that and when clients can breath and move easier again.

Mindful touch releases endorphins, eases tension and pain,, decreases the levels of stress hormones, boosts the immune system, lowers blood pressure and so much more.

Having a massage is one form of touch that can really reconnect you with the body, yourself and the world. If you are uncertain about skin to skin contact, then there are many ways to work through towels, clothing, use of balls, etc. Don't let that hold you back.

I hope to welcome you for a massage. Please get in touch if you just want to discuss a query or book a session, either via messenger, phone call, text, whatsapp or email.

Massage and the art of touch has many health benefits. Discussions like this may bring us closer to having massage therapy included in health care provision 👍

While they can be seen as a luxury, massages are often part of healthcare – here’s how they affect physical and mental health

I'm having three incredibly informative and inspirational practical training days as part of Susan Findlay's Oncology Massage Course at Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork and I can't wait to offer support to people that are or have been affected by a cancer diagnosis and its treatments. Massage can have a positive effect on the sense of wellbeing in a time that is demanding on body and mind.

The summer brings longer days, weeding the garden, surfing, hiking, running after children, tidying sheds, but also the every day tasks of sitting at a desk, being on your legs all day, cleaning holiday lets or just dealing with the aches and pains resulting from long term conditions or age.

Whatever it is, stretching our muscles and pausing our thinking helps to reset yourself that little bit.
A massage can really help with this!

Please contact me if you would like to book or discuss your massage options with me.

Appointments are available at the therapy room in Marhamchurch or as a mobile massage in the comfort of your own home.

30min back, shoulder&neck massage - £30
60min full body Swedish or Deep Tissue - £45
90min full body Swedish or Deep Tissue - £65
