The Specialist Mental Health Nurse Team were incredibly busy over the last 2 weeks.

Busy doing brilliant clinical work is something I love.

Being busy with patient work, finances, life admin, health appointments and looking after myself - can feel completely overwhelming at times.

It is so important for me or the people who care about me to share the reminder that, we are just one imperfect human. There is only so much a person can do in a day.

So today I remind myself and anyone reading, that doing the next right thing, just in this day - is all any of us have.

Pausing, silenced phones, read receipts off, sitting, eating, reading, napping, walking, talking, silence, tears and laughter are all things we absolutely require.

These are not luxurious acts or moments to be earned.

Taking my own knowledge and believing it is something I've always found challenging.

So, how are you actually doing?

What is worrying you?

How are you looking after yourself today?

Wow & there it is!!

I have just this very second been voice noting a family regarding this exact skill, topic and reality ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’โ˜•

Tonight I am overwhelmed with tiredness AND grateful for my life, my work and the people I meet.

I have just stumbled across this post in a local group and my goodness does this sum things up beautifully!!!

I discuss, explain, and feel the challenges that a duel diagnosis of Autism and ADHD has.

Not just on the individual but also their family, friends and wider network or teachers, doctors or employers.

The opposing positions in the mind and body.

The way a person presents in one situation and the next.

The consistently, inconsistent.

Thank you The SEND triangle brilliant work ๐ŸŒปโ˜•๐Ÿ’ญโœจ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ฅ๐Ÿฆ‹โœจ๐Ÿง

AuDHD can sometimes feel like having two different operating systems running at the same time.

Autism often craves predictability, routine, processing time and emotional safety. ADHD often seeks novelty, stimulation, movement and spontaneity.

When someone is both autistic and ADHD (AuDHD), those needs can clash internally; wanting structure but resisting restriction, craving routine but struggling to maintain it, needing calm whilst also needing stimulation.

Itโ€™s not โ€œcontradictory behaviourโ€, itโ€™s a very real neurodivergent experience that many people spend years trying to understand

Iโ€™m currently creating some simple AuDHD reflection and support resources around this topic.

A little ask from us this Mental Health Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’š

If youโ€™ve found our content helpful, supportive or informative, one of the biggest ways you can support a small service like ours is by:
โœ” Leaving a review
โœ” Recommending our page
โœ” Sharing our posts
โœ” Tagging us when you think someone may benefit from our support

Social media algorithms can be tough for small community services, so every interaction genuinely helps more people find us.

And if our support has made a difference to your family, hearing that means the absolute world to us too ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’™ International Nurses Day ๐Ÿ’™

Today we celebrate all nurses - including our founder, Aimee.

Nurses make a difference every single day, offering care, compassion and support when itโ€™s needed most.

Aimee, The Specialist Mental Health Nurse, has spent years supporting children, young people and families - helping them feel heard, understood and guided through their journey.

International Nurses Day (12 May, marking the birthday of Florence Nightingale) is a reminder of the impact nursing has across every stage of life.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Today, we recognise and thank every nurse - including those making a difference in mental health.

Mental Health Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’š
11th - 17th May

Mental health matters every single day - not just when things reach crisis point.

This week is about encouraging conversations, reducing stigma, increasing understanding and reminding people that support is available.

Sometimes the smallest actions can make the biggest difference:
๐Ÿ’š Checking in on someone
๐Ÿ’š Taking a break when you need one
๐Ÿ’š Asking for help
๐Ÿ’š Setting boundaries
๐Ÿ’š Being kinder to yourself

You are not weak for struggling, and you do not have to face things alone.

Letโ€™s continue creating a world where people feel safe to talk openly about mental health without fear of judgement ๐Ÿ’š

โ€œUnderstood the issues straight awayโ€ฆโ€ ๐Ÿ’š

Reaching out for the first time can feel like a big step.

We aim to make those initial conversations supportive, honest and reassuring - helping families feel heard from the very beginning.

This is a brilliant reminder on a warm Friday!! โœจโ˜•๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ’ก๐ŸŒป

Anger often shows up as a highly visible emotion, but it is rarely the full story.

In psychology and therapy/counselling, anger is often described as a secondary emotion as it frequently masks other feelings such as fear, sadness, hurt, or shame.

'The Anger Iceberg '( saved to photo album 'Emotion Regulation ' in our photos/media folders) is one useful tool to explore what lies beneath the surface.

Equally important is understanding what triggers anger in the first place.

This helpful infographic by shows us that triggers can be understood on different levels:

๐Ÿ”น Immediate triggers: hunger, stress, poor communication, or fatigue.

๐Ÿ”น Emotional & interpersonal triggers: feeling disrespected, excluded, or unappreciated.

๐Ÿ”น Psychological & cognitive triggers: fear of losing control, negative self-talk, or a sense of powerlessness.

๐Ÿ”น Root-level & learned causes: unresolved trauma, early learned behaviours, or unmet emotional needs.

Recognising our own triggers is one of the the steps to managing our anger in a healthier way.

By becoming curious about what sits underneath the reaction, we can begin to respond with more awareness and less reactivity.
