ADHD Awareness Month — a personal reflection
As October wraps up, I’m reflecting on a nearly year-long journey since my ADHD diagnosis last November. I’ve been learning where executive dysfunction hits hardest and celebrating the parts I want to lean into (hello pattern recognition, creativity and staying calm in a crisis).
I’m still waiting to try medication. I know it isn’t a silver bullet skills create change and while I wait, these small supports have helped with focus, planning and time:
My core mantras:
• Procrastination: “If I am having trouble getting started, the 1st step is too big.”
• Planning: “If it’s not in the calendar, it doesn’t exist.”
• Distraction control: “Out of sight, out of mind; in sight, in mind.”
• Prioritisation: “First things first.”
• Organisation: “A place for everything and everything in its place.”
Why I procrastinate: task aversion, time blindness/poor planning, and anxiety/self-doubt/perfectionism.
If you’re late-diagnosed (or suspect you might be), you’re not alone. If this resonates, save + share. And if you’d like support reach out when you’re ready. 🦋🌈
