Yesterday I went to an outdoor sauna with some friends and that familiar feeling of wearing a swimming costume came creeping back in. Uncomfortable, judgement, critical internal view of myself.
Today I’m pondering the bikinis sat in my chest of drawers.
Why do we care?
Because we been made to review, critic and demonise our bodies in the name of “health and beauty”, a standard set my men, upheld by women and the “beauty” industry.
When I have these thoughts, I have to remember that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, we are not a god damn Instagram filter!
We’re not a problem to be sold to and fixed.
We are not the sum total of what our body looks like.
We are strong, capable, and we are all different.
We’re not meant to look like carbon copies of each other.
We may have raised children, been through trauma, illness, been bigger and or smaller.
I’m healthy and I’m here and I’m going to wear what the f@ck I like 🖕
