Smoke firing is totally absorbing me at the moment, using foil saggars, the foil traps the combustibles which slowly smolder and burn, their marks leaving distinctive designs behind. A bit about me; I'm recently married thus my name change, sorry FKCeramics, but that's not my name anymore, so Fiona Newby is me, I'm a newbeeeee. All my pottery is fired to 1225oC, stoneware temperatures, and are suitable for outside being weatherproof. I take my inspiration from positive things, things that make me happy: flowers, birds, angels, boats to name a few. Also, the human form, especially the curves in pregnancy I find simply lovely, I had the honor of drawing a pregnant woman whilst at university, then being pregnant myself was inspirational, the shapes have never left me and feature in my coil pots. Recently I've been playing with wire and drift wood, I've been really happy with the results. I'm an avid collector of essential' things, these things will appear in some way or another in my work. Recently I've enjoyed designing my own cards, using many of my essential finds to decorate these. Life is a crazy journey, I appreciate all that I have, so I'm enjoying mine, whilst playing with clay. Fiona x
