Fiona Newby Artist

Fiona Newby Artist Message me for any enquiries, all my pieces need new homes. Hi,
thank you for viewing my page. Madam Cholet is a name my man Mark calls me.
(1)

Smoke firing is totally absorbing me at the moment, using foil saggars, the foil traps the combustibles which slowly smolder and burn, their marks leaving distinctive designs behind. A bit about me; I'm recently married thus my name change, sorry FKCeramics, but that's not my name anymore, so Fiona Newby is me, I'm a newbeeeee. All my pottery is fired to 1225oC, stoneware temperatures, and are suitable for outside being weatherproof. I take my inspiration from positive things, things that make me happy: flowers, birds, angels, boats to name a few. Also, the human form, especially the curves in pregnancy I find simply lovely, I had the honor of drawing a pregnant woman whilst at university, then being pregnant myself was inspirational, the shapes have never left me and feature in my coil pots. Recently I've been playing with wire and drift wood, I've been really happy with the results. I'm an avid collector of essential' things, these things will appear in some way or another in my work. Recently I've enjoyed designing my own cards, using many of my essential finds to decorate these. Life is a crazy journey, I appreciate all that I have, so I'm enjoying mine, whilst playing with clay. Fiona x

After a crazily busy week it’s time to simply say “THANK YOU.”
Thank you to the team you are all simply amazing, the effort you put into this fabulous art event is incredible. We, the artist enjoy showcasing our work because you create one of the largest open Art exhibition in the UK. 20% of sales goes to local and national cancer charities, so thank you to the people who purchased from me. I’m especially thankful for for selecting my piece for the Ceramics prize, I am still on a high, think I shall be until maybe next year.
A big thank you to , and Neil Curran for their support of the Meltham Fringe venue, footfall was higher, so it was worth all that effort. The volunteers at The Crossroads Centre especially & Nigel Priestley.
My week also involved a fabulous Hen Party for , where I floated away on bubbles, until the following day….and
opening up my works email to OFSTED!!!!
Huge thank you to my school colleagues for always being fabulous team work at its finest.
I do feel blessed to have a busy life, when stop running around like a crazy lady be worried…..

What an honour to receive this prize. Honestly I was speechless when I got the call.
Apparently Edward Naylor and his wife visited and selected my Emotion piece. My Emotion forms are my reflection on contrasting feelings; how we inwardly feel versus how we verbally portray ourselves. This piece was coil built in Ashraf Hanna clay, burnished and coated with Terra Sigillata slip, then burnished until totally smooth and totally shiny. Fired to 1000oC in my electric kiln, then Raku fired to 950oC, rapidly printing with combustibles on to the red hot surface.

🥰 Thank you so much to all the amazing volunteers. 20%of sales goes to cancer charities.

𝐅𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐲 (𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬), one of the artists exhibiting at 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞: 𝟖𝐭𝐡 - 𝟏𝟐𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

Whilst at university, Fiona Newby Artist drew a pregnant life model, and the female form has inspired her ever since, as has the beauty of animals in nature.

Fiona uses various techniques to build her forms, hand-building: coiling and pinching the clay before they are highly burnished. Smoke firing creates wonderful marks on the clay surface, like the scars we accumulate in our lives.

Already for Dovecot Gallery, a beautiful gallery near Doncaster.
The Dovecot sits at the end of the yard at Poplars Farm, in Styrrup, the sculpture studios of Hilary Cartmel and Michael Johnson.
This weekend you can ‘have a go’ on a potters wheel, enjoy the beautiful gardens whilst pursuing 30 potters, a cafe to support the Ukrainian community and raffle which has pieces from all the potters.

I hope you can hear my excitement at filming this Saggar and Naked Raku firing with the amazing Fiona Newby.Fiona creates a texture to her work that you have...
