Women experiencing persistent bloating, itching, back pain or feeling full quickly after eating normally put them down to menopause, getting older or digestive trouble.

However, it can actually be a symptom of gynaecological cancers, which are a type of cancer that starts in female reproductive organs.

More than 20,000 women are affected by these cancers each year in the UK, which are:

👉 ovarian cancer
👉 cervical cancer
👉 endometrial (womb) cancer
👉 vulval cancer
👉 vaginal cancer

September marks Gynaecological Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness of the different gynaecological cancers.

To mark the month, consultant gynaecologic oncologist Anupama Rajan Babu is sharing the often-missed signs of these cancers and top tips for spotting them early.

Protect your child from flu!🤧

📝As your child heads back to the classroom, please remember to sign their flu vaccination consent form from school.

All primary school children are recommended a free flu nasal spray this year.

Children who have a serious long term health condition may be invited to have their vaccine at their GP Practice.

If your child is clinically at risk, they will also be eligible for a COVID-19 autumn booster.

Did you know the NHS app has been improved to allow patients to see information about their clinical condition, including some test results such as blood tests and scans.

Ken Anderson, University Hospitals Tees group chief information technology officer, commented: “The NHS app is very secure and no one else can view your personal information. It’s one of the most cyber-secure apps available.

“When you log on to view your results, you’ll see a warning message saying your health record may contain sensitive information. This gives you a chance to make sure no one nearby can see your screen.

“With many tests being carried out by hospitals on behalf of our GP colleagues, including at the new Tees Valley Community Diagnostic Centre, we fully support this move to add even more value to the NHS app.”

A GP will always review results from a test before uploading to the patient’s health record. If results are sensitive or contain potentially upsetting news, the GP will try to speak to the patient before uploading onto their health record.

Lucy Falcus, medical director for Hartlepool and Stockton Health, said: "Patients being able to see their test results as soon as they are available is a great step towards helping patients understand and be more proactive in managing their health. The NHS app allows them to do this really easily."

As well as test results, patients can view information about their allergies, medicines, vaccinations and NHS consultations and other events.

****UPDATE ON GPs PROVIDING MOUNJARO INJECTIONS ****
The ICB (Integrated Care Board) have been tasked by NHS England with providing Mounjaro injections in GP practices by 23.06.25 but only for very specific groups of patients with a number of particular health conditions - likely to only be a handful of patients in each practice.
The details of how GPs will be able to provide this have still not been agreed. Please don’t make an appointment about Mounjaro yet - we are very likely to have to disappoint.

Even when details of how GPs can provide Mounjaro have been agreed, we will need to arrange training and set up clinics, which will take time. We want to help as many patients as we can, but are limited by the plans of the ICB based on NHS England requirements.
