🐾 For many patients, a vital part of their short-term or long-term plan is reducing the difficulty of everyday activities. For orthopaedic patients, reducing the impact of steps, stairs, on/off furniture and in/out of the car is hugely important. For neurological patients who may have impaired balance, reducing the risk of falls is crucial to prevent secondary injuries. 🪜 🛋️

🐾 Appropriate adaptions will depend on the layout of your house, where your dog needs to get to, how capable they are, the stage of their recovery, and of course the size of your dog! 🐕

🐾 Home assessments and recovery planning can be carried out remotely via a 30 minute video call, for example if your dog has a scheduled surgery ahead, or is currently in hospital recovering from an accident. Please get in touch if you would like to know more about this service. 📧

It’s KCI week! The first time I went to the KC international agility festival (the biggest agility show in the world) I wasn’t sure if I’d like it - but I LOVED it! 😊

This time the memory is from 2018.. Although as a therapist I love watching my clients do amazing things in the higher level classes, this was a very special novice competition when 3 out of 3 qualified for Olympia! 🥳 It was also a special year as Herbie and I qualified for Crufts for the second time. 🥰

It is August tomorrow! One of the highlights of my August when I started agility was a little show at Buckland Filleigh run by Dartmoor club I think. The photo is my second agility dog Bob at Buckland Filleigh show in 2006.

This was a lovely friendly show just for Starters. In those days Elementary and Starters were the “protected” classes for new handlers, so once you won out you could never compete in that level again. Jump heights were higher and it was also far more common for clubs to use their own homemade equipment for shows, all wooden, with quite a range of designs! 🪚📐🔨

This was also a memorable show for me as I ended up running two dogs at once! Having two dogs in the same class I left one with a friend near the start line. He managed to slip his collar leaving her holding the collar and lead and joined us in the ring to jump perfectly in formation. 😂 I had to stop when we got to the tyre and was offered a rerun but declined as it was my own dog who had sabotaged! 🤣

Being married to an agility judge for a few years now, there’s a little part of my brain that thinks just before a summer sunset is course setup time! Fell’s favourite job was always to help Kevin set his courses the evening before a judging appointment. 🥰

⏪ 🕰️ Turning back the clock even further this time, to my earliest agility memory.

😍 Today’s memory is Toastie, a gorgeous rescue dog who lived with my aunt and uncle. I used to dogsit when they were on holiday, always hugely enjoying spending time with their pack of anything up to 7 dogs.

🏃‍♀️🐾 On one occasion my aunt’s friend kindly took me and Toastie to their regular agility club training session. Of course Toastie knew exactly what he was meant to do, all I needed to do was run along next to him, point at obstacles, and tell him he was a very good boy! 🥰 We had a wonderful time! 🤩 🤗

This year 2025 marks exactly 20 years since my first KC agility rosette - here is the wonderful Toby with his giant clear round rosette - bonus points if you can tell me which KC show I was at from the colours!

A lot has changed over the intervening years, although I still have collies and non-collies, still do agility, and am still a complete dogaholic!

Over the next few months I’m going to be posting some of the amazing memories I have from my time in agility, discussing the changes that have taken place, and sharing some of the things I have learned. Watch this space!
