🌱 Self-compassion is the practice of treating yourself with kindness, understanding, and acceptance. It's about recognizing that we all make mistakes, have flaws, and face challenges. But, instead of being hard on ourselves, we can choose to be gentle and supportive.

🌟 Remember, you are worthy of love and compassion, just as you are. Embrace your imperfections and celebrate your progress. Be kind to yourself, you're doing the best you can. 💖

Have you got the winter blues? Most, if not all of us, may have noticed that it's been tough to do much as the seasons have changed from summer to winter. We want to be in bed all the time, 8pm feels like midnight and your energy has just dropped to an all-time low. You may even notice that you're feeling a little down in the dumps right now. Well, it's very common this time of year, and despite experiencing this year in and year out, it's still a bit of a struggle. So how can we battle the blues this winter and adjust our body and our minds to the colder, shorter days. Swipe 👉🏿

When you are thinking negatively, how much do you believe that your thoughts are true? How often do you question your thoughts, or think about an alternative perspective? Negative thinking can often cloud our judgement and this makes it difficult to notice any other ways of viewing situations. Remember, thoughts and beliefs aren't facts. Next time you have a negative thought, instead of just believing it, how about we ask ourselves, what tells me this thought is true? Let's see what happens?

How possible is it to reach perfection? Often people view this as a positive trait to have, however it is more likely to lead to more self criticism and anxiety in our pursuit for the impossible.

TW: self harm and su***de.
Did you know that people who self harm are more likely to attempt and compete su***de? Often there is a negative stigma attached to self harm (its a cry for help, or they are attention seeking) rather than a view of distress and symptom of a serious mental illness. So this is a post to help you understand self harm a little better, and some tips about how to manage this.

So I thought I'd kick things off by explaining what I do. Like you've seen in my bio, I am a CBT Therapist. It is one of a number of evidence based psychotherapies used to treat psychological difficulties. Evidence based pretty much means that there's been a lot of research that shows that this treatment is effective.
Every day, we are interpreting the world around us, and this forms our thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, interpretations of ourselves, others and the world around us. Essentially, how we think. CBT focuses on the idea that our thoughts affect how we feel and what we do.
When we are struggling with our mental health, often our interpretations become skewered, too rigid or inaccurate, so as you can imagine, that will impact your feelings and behaviours. This then sets of a vicious maintenence cycle that can be very difficult to get out of. In CBT we work on helping you change those vicious cycles into helpful ones.
Seems easy enough right? Well CBT is an easy concept, however in my experience, it can be very difficult for a lot of us to recognise these cycles, let alone do something about them. Working with a trained therapist can be extremely helpful to understand and work through these challenges.
CBT is an effective treatment for a number of psychological difficulties (I will go into these at a later date). It is considered the gold standard treatment for anxiety disorders, which are some of the most common mental health difficulties that we experience, alongside depression. So this could be something that you or someone you know may benefit from.
Hope this has been helpful 🙂

Hi, welcome to Reset Minds. My name is Bongi and I am a mental health nurse, CBT Therapist, and EMDR trainee therapist.

In my 13 years of working in mental health, I have never seen such a strong focus and spotlight on the importance of looking after our mental health. I have an absolute passion for providing psychoeducation and focusing on early intervention and prevention so we know how to look after ourselves. Which is where this page comes in. I hope this can be a good space to share knowledge of mental wellbeing, debunk myths around mental health difficulties and illness, break the negative stigma and instead, discuss challenges we may experiences, provide factual information about mental health and share evidence based tips on how to take care of our mental health.

As a therapist, I am also a firm believer in the power of the mind healing from past traumas and illnesses we develop as a result. Every day, I work with people who recover and can continue to live more fulfilled lives. If you think you could benefit from some help from me, please jump into my DMs, or get in contact with me from the information on this page.

Very excited to take this journey with you 😊
