Weโve seen some fantastic content bringing awareness and offering support for those facing challenges with their mental health. ๐
Though itโs widely understood that mental health is just as important as physical health, it carries a heavy stigma that can often prevent individuals from seeking the help they need. We're looking to expose and debunk these stigmas that serve nobody in a positive way.
Accepting you have mental health struggles makes you weak and a failure
โ You're dangerous, violent, unstable and unpredictable
โ Your mental health challenges are self-inflicted
โ Mental health challenges cannot be overcome
โ Its a 'taboo subject' and speaking about it is shameful
โ Doubtfulness of professionals and their ability to support correctly.
These are just a handful of false statements that are commonly mentioned in the same sentence as mental health, however combatting these stigmas together is important to encourage a more open dialogue around personal challenges.
Educate staff and colleagues about mental health to sweep out the stigmas.
Implement supportive policies within the workplace offering in-work support systems and mental health days.
Normalise seeking professional help, and offer access to mental health professionals reassuring employees that their wellbeing is a priority.
We can all be part of the movement thatโs gathered pace in recent years, but it takes effort, spending time and money on important resources and education.
