Visited with mum today and met the fabulous, inspirational, energetic woman behind it that is Tab. Wonderful outdoor community space. Productive and messy and welcoming - loved it! Loads of home-grown veg, wild areas and a pond providing different habitats, space to allow young children to be free, chickens, bees, cooking, stuff happening, cultural harmony in the heart of east Pollokshields. Many things in common with what we do at BFS Green Gym but 10 times bigger. Thank you for showing us round. The is real 🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾🙏🏿

More produce, the third gifted cobnut is alive after all and back to tidy up the canalside plot for 's cruises this weekend at the Fenny Stratford canal festival. Come along - Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August.

We did a bit of work for today, deadheading the large planters on Queensway. The petunias were kinda fiddly! Our hi-vis attracted some attention with people asking who we are, asking for advice on their hanging baskets and wanting to join.

Our Green Gym allotment isn't just about growing food, it's also about creating habitats for other species. So our patches of wildflowers are really important areas - we're not too tidy. Today, courtesy of Darylynn, we learned about the life cycle of ladybirds, seeing as three stages of it were right there before our eyes. We also did some frog spotting in our pond, which is now so well established. Grim Reaperish shadows behind said frog look rather ominous!

We take our responsibilities very seriously here at BFS Green Gym. We were asked to get the canal-side landing station at Fenny ship-shape (see what I did there) ahead of tomorrow's 'Countryside Cream Tea Cruise from Fenny Stratford' (sold out, sorry, but there are others - check Electra's website), and ship-shape it is. Under the watchful eye of Site Manager Heron, we mulched, w**ded and watered.
And then, on the way home, we stole a pallet!
(no, we didn't - joke - honest guv' - he said we could take it...)

At today's session we started by helping our and MK Canals pals (try saying that quickly) w**d and water the new beds ahead of the grand opening next week. I won't reveal the whole new sign ahead of their event but here's a sneak peek with our logo on it! So proud 😊 10 newly-hatched cygnets near where we were working. Hope there's still 10 of the next week - there are always a few casualties - nature is so brutal.
Then a few of us headed to the allotment to water and we w**ded all our beds too. First crop - 3 radishes - will try not to eat them at once. It's a wonder anything at all has grown. Soil is like dust. However, grateful to for coming along to top up our water tank and the pond 🙏🏻

I'm not going to pretend we worked terribly hard yesterday - it was just so hot, but it's lovely to be able to meet at our plot and relax by the pond! Two of our number did build a newly-donated storage shed, though, and the rest of us pottered about with watering and w**ding, so it's all good. We also rediscovered the wild garlic corner, which we had forgotten about and that plastic dome that's been knocking about for a bit really could be used to create a mini Eden project, don't you think...? 🤔
Heron is on the Grand Union Canal en route to the plot.
