Five Villages First Responders (Misterton)

Five Villages First Responders (Misterton) Misterton based "Five Villages Community First Responders" group, North Nottinghamshire. Volunteers working with EMAS to help save lives in the community.

The Five Villages First Responder group is a Community First Responder scheme which works in partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service in the rural part of North Nottinghamshire. The volunteer First Responders are trained to deliver life saving care such as defibrillation, resuscitation, oxygen therapy and other skills. Because the volunteer CFR's live within the local area they can arrive on the scene of an emergency quickly and begin care of the patient until the ambulance arrives. The Five Villages First Responder scheme responds to medical emergency calls when requested by the ambulance service control room following a 999 call in Misterton, West Stockwith, Beckingham cm Saundby, Walkeringham, Gringley on the Hill, Everton, Clayworth and other surrounding villages in North Nottinghamshire and North Lincolnshire. They are called to assist in life threatening situations such as cardiac arrest; unconsciousness; breathing problems such as asthma attacks; severe allergic reactions; chest pain and heart attacks; strokes; diabetic emergencies and seizures. A First Responder does not replace the ambulance service, but because they are local and we live in a rural area the CFR can usually arrive on the scene within five minutes and can provide care until the ambulance arrives. The group was formed in 2004 and since then has attended over 1,450 emergency calls. The team consists currently of 12 fully trained CFR's who work on a rota basis, giving some time each week to be "on call" should they be needed. The team is self funded through kind donations from local people, businesses and organisations. Money raised is used to purchase equipment and to keep the scheme running and to help us keep this vital service available for members of the community in the rural area of North Nottinghamshire. If you are interested in finding out more about what we do, would like to help us fund raise of give a donation or would like to consider becoming a volunteer Community First Responder, then please get in touch with us for an informal chat via our email or website (details below).
