Well it looks like word has spread….surprise cardboard boxes of homeless distressed bears turning up at the door at 8am!! Matron thinks the clinic should have a new name or a Hostel building on site setting up!

How can I not help! This box full is from a neighbour of a lady that passed on….poor bears but your in safe hands now and Matron will find you a good next home.

‘Chivers’ a clients bear came in for work. I found this newspaper in his leg, dating from Jan 1941.

New cotton/linen pads to keep he aged. Re painted his glass eyes, leg and arm damage fixed, top up of wood wool, claws, tidy his nose and a good clean.

Of course he needed to keep his newspaper scraps so I ironed them and made him a bag to store them in that he can sit on.

It feels like a NHS a&e department this morning. 😆

I recently was honoured to tackle ‘Notty’ by a client, an antique Steiff bear that is well over 100yrs old.
Notty needed his muzzle lining and grafting, nose stitching, felt pads replacing, seams re stitching, wood wool topping up and old amateur repairs renewing.

Then I couldn’t let him go home with without new clothes to go with his dapper fixed up face.

Really enjoyed doing this bear, a piece of history.

This bear came in from a client who went on holiday, this is what she said:

‘He was all alone sitting on a chair in the cold window of the Antique shop in Hamina, Finland. The shop was closed for Christmas and I couldnt get his wee sad face and outstretched paw out of my head. So when we got home I searched on line for the shop. Contacted the shopkeeper and the next day Ekke was on a flight to Scotland’

* Cleaned
* Replaced broken joints
* New old glass eyes
* Stitch nose and mouth
* Good brush and comb
* Make waistcoat using his old eyes as buttons.

Very productive Wednesday morning here at the clinic. Three new old bears added to the adoption page. One of the biggest adoption boxes ,of 5 items, and one of the smallest sent out from a shop order yesterday.
Then to start on the next patient, who will also be for adoption.
Trying to get new bears ready to take to the antique fair on the 8th February in Bolton.
