I visited a natural burial site today and it’s safe to say the weather made it a memorable experience. Castle Chase Natural Burial Meadow in Usk.
We stood in the wooden shelter as thunder rolled and lightning lit up the sky, with heavy rain falling all around us. And yet, even in the middle of the storm, there was something incredibly peaceful about the place.
Anna, the custodian, was so lovely and welcoming. She spoke with such warmth and knowledge, and it was clear how much the site means to her, especially knowing it was originally established by her mother some years ago.
Despite the wild weather, the beauty of the meadow and its far-reaching views still shone through. It felt natural, open, and quietly comforting, a place that allows space for reflection and remembrance in its own gentle way.
It was a reminder that even in the most unexpected conditions, there can be calm, beauty, and meaning.
