Are you still waiting for your pink to return? 🦩
It is completely normal not to feel like yourself right away after becoming a mum. Your “pink” can take months, even years to return and that’s okay.
When I say pink, I am talking about the flamingo theory. When flamingos have babies, they lose their pink due to the demands of motherhood and slowly, with time, it returns. Motherhood is the same. You could be the happiest you’ve ever been and adore motherhood, counting your lucky stars each day but you may feel like you no longer recognise part of yourself anymore.
The weight of responsibility of motherhood is heavy. Even when someone else is looking after your child, they still never leave your mind and that constant battle in your head that you need a break but don’t want to be apart from them. Your days are timed by nap schedules, teething nights, and the endless juggle of “getting things done.” Feeling like you are on a hamster wheel with no ending of the to do list in site.
Your body has changed and you are struggling to find a way of dressing your new shape but keeping in mind your clothes may need to be breastfeeding friendly, practical and comfy. The hair that blossomed in pregnancy sheds, the exhaustion is real, and broken sleep becomes the new normal. Your sense of humour is not what it used to be.
Please be gentle on yourself and remember how important you are. You deserve to come first- take those minutes for yourself. Stay longer in the shower and leave the conditioner in your hair for a few minutes longer. End your day by putting on your favourite pyjamas and having a hot drink in peace. Go for a walk and put your headphones on- listen to your favourite songs or podcast while you push your sleeping child. Switch the nursery rhymes for your own songs now and again while you cook tea. The hoovering can wait, you are way more important than those floors🫶🏻
