reflection on wabi-sabi from our founder, , a long-time admirer of this deeply rooted Japanese aesthetic.
It is a concept that is hard to define precisely but at its core is a quiet reverence for imperfection. It finds the beauty in the incomplete, the uneven and the impermanent - ceramics shaped by hand rather than precision; stones marked and softened by nature; the subtle irregularities in a yarn or weave; buildings worn by time and the elements.
Almost without intention, wabi-sabi permeates every collection. It lives in the artisans we collaborate with and the unique objects we are proud to share in our stores - each one carrying its own character and quiet sense of authenticity.
