See how nutrition can be the first step to improving your health and reducing symptoms you may have experienced or suppressed for years…

My client reached out for nutrition support after years of stomach issues which had lead to weight gain, low energy levels and more recently high cholesterol.

Below are a few points we worked on together to reduce symptoms, improve weight, increase energy levels and reduce cholesterol…

1)Most importantly, we had to get to the root cause of the stomach issues… 🦠
The main focus here was gut health… nourishing the gut and repopulating “healthy gut bacteria”

This was done by…

*Increasing dietary fibre intake
*Upping daily water intake
*Increasing ‘whole-food’ intake
*Adding in a probiotic supplement and probiotic foods
*Keeping a “symptom tracker”
*Understanding the importance and role of fats in the diet

2)Regular check ins and education sessions 🤓

3)Consistency - my client did experience some set backs to trial and error with food and consistency was key to our success! ✨

Having your nutrition in order can be detrimental to your health… through nutrition we can ensure your taking the steps to optimise your health and form the healthiest habits with food and nourishing your body.

Please get in touch so I can support you with your nutrition 😊

5 simple ways to improve your morning nutrition…

👋🏻 Don’t rely on caffeine to ‘energise’ your morning
-Caffeine is actually an appetite suppressant so having caffeine first thing on its own can reduce your appetite and de-regulate your hunger hormones, resulting in you not feeling hungry for breakfast. So don’t rely on caffeine to “fuel your morning”… instead have caffeine in addition to your breakfast.

👊🏻Fail to prepare or prepare to fail
-Meal prep your breakfast the night before for busy mornings and breakfasts on the go. This is the easiest way to prepare for the day ahead and stay accountable to your routine/goals.
Boiled eggs, Greek yogurt and fruit bowls or overnight oats are all nutritious breakfast and simple to meal prep.

🫵🏻 Hydrate to stay great
-Start your morning as you mean to go on with a glass of water and electrolytes to maintain potassium, magnesium and salt levels ready to start your day! 💥
Having low potassium, magnesium and/or salt levels can contribute to fatigue, loss of concentration, dehydration, gut and digestion issues and in some cases can lead to fainting and/or delirium in hotter conditions!

⚖️Check your macros
- Often are breakfasts are carbohydrate heavy, leaving no room for protein, fats and fibre. Make sure you balance your breakfast plate with carbs/fats/protein and fibre and reach out if you are unsure how to do this ☺️

‼️Less does not mean more
Don’t miss out on this feeding opportunity in the morning… and please don’t think you are “saving calories” by skipping breakfast - this only results in food guilt, restriction of food groups (most commonly carbohydrates - your main energy source!!) and forms unhealthy relationships with food.

If there’s no fuel in your body, how do you expect it to perform optimally every day??!!

Creating healthier habits in your morning routine will only set you up in the best way for the rest of your day!

Get in touch so I can help support you in becoming the healthiest version of yourself 🙌🏻✨

DOES LOWER CALORIE MEAN HEALTHIER?

→ swipe right to read my advice

👋🏻As my clients will know, less calories does not always mean more when it comes to weight loss, in-fact in some situations it has the reverse effect!

✔️For weight loss, yes you need to be in a calorie deficit, but let’s stop becoming so consumed with calories and actually look at what we are eating and putting into our bodies that may be leading to other health issues⁉️
📢In order to create a healthier relationship with food we need education around nutrition to create a balanced lifestyle to fit in with our busy work and social lives…

💡Just because a food product/ drink has fewer calories, this does not make it healthier!! We are missing the bigger picture of what else is in these “healthy products” marketed as ‘lower calorie, higher protein, lower carbohydrate’.
‼️Surprisingly, some lower calorie products are actually filled with more refined sugars and saturated fat to enhance flavour/taste.
🤓Research now highlights direct links of diets high in saturated/ trans fat and sugar with higher cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, risk of infection, inflammation, links to cancer, high blood pressure, poor gut health and risk of disease…
…Which is the complete opposite of healthy!!!

✋🏻The food industry is a minefield and food labels are very misleading so let me support and show you that nutrition does not have to be complex!

Ultimately, education is the only way to out date these diet fads and misconceptions around food, calories and healthy eating so please comment, like and share.
I would love to hear you opinion on this topic in the comments 😄

Why should nutrition support be personalised?

I like to give a very small insight into nutrition, food and dietary considerations with a brief overview on tips to help improve your lifestyle and overall nutrition… HOWEVER…

Nutrition advice should be person specific and no two clients nutrition goals, education and support will ever be the same and that’s because, we all have different:

* Physiological make up
* Goals (fitness / lifestyle / well being / nutrition etc)
* Activity levels / exercise energy expenditure / NEAT
* Dietary needs / medical conditions / allergies / intolerances
* And we are all different ages / genders and have different preferences in what what does and doesn’t works for us with food, fitness and wellbeing 😊

Ultimately, in every other aspect in life we are different to one another from the gym programmes we follow, habits and routines we implement to the routines we have and medications we take, so why should nutrition support be generic?

Nutrition is NOT a one size fits all…

What works for one individual may not work for you and that’s what makes my job role so important ✨😊

Nutrition is very much trial and error, it’s working with the individual client to build a relationship to share, learn and support.

It’s about education and most importantly it’s about support and creating a safe environment for you as the client to learn, make mistakes, feedback, evaluate, reflect, thrive, reach your goals and most importantly enjoy learning more about your body and the goodness you put into it ✨

Swipe to see just a few ways how personalised nutrition support can help you 🙌🏻

Please get in touch if you would like to know more / ask questions or start working together. Anytime is a good time to start! 🤗✨👏🏻

Meet my client Jay! 👋🏻

Jay set himself the challenge of raising money for by signing up to the Lake District 100km Ultra Challenge ‼️

Throughout Jay’s training for this HUGE event, nutrition has played an extremely important role!
The energy requirements of a challenge like this are extremely intense! Therefore, it was essential for us to get fuelling right not only on the day but also in the build up to this event and also in the recovery post event and post training 🙌🏻

How did my knowledge and experience of being a registered performance nutritionist support Jay throughout this process?

-Training the gut to consume high volumes of food and fluids whilst on the move 🏃

-Practicing the concepts of carbohydrate loading and finding a practical load that worked well for Jay 🥯

-Hydration protocols, supplement usage and timing practice for all nutrition practice!! 💧⌚️

-Recovery nutrition - for the all important rest and recovery 💪🏻

-Lots of trial and error, learning curves and finding new love for foods (although I don’t think the Ella’s kitchen apple pouches will be a feature in your regular diet 🤣).

7 months on and what an amazing effort from Jay! Massive credits to you and your commitment to this challenge! 👊🏻 You should be so proud! ☺️

…. Will we see on the Crossfit comp floor next? 👀

Does a healthy gut mean a healthier you?

Research is now showing links with a number of chronic illnesses, chronic inflammation and diseases too be attributed with poor gut health and in a number of cases, symptom relief has been most successful following improvements to diet, incorporating more exercise, limiting stress and adjusting lifestyle habits.

With over 100 trillion live bacteria (aka our microbiome) living in our gut, it’s important we do our upmost to understand the microbiome (the best we can) and learn how to look after it with both lifestyle factors, diet and exercise…

So why is our gut microbiome so important and how can it influence our body and general functioning?

The bacteria living in our gut helps to support our immune system, with 70-80% of immune cells being present in the gut. Our gut bacteria also helps to reduce inflammation and our risk of infection. Reducing inflammation also reduces our exposure to contracting disease and illness and therefore the healthier we are!

Often referred to as “our second brain” the gut really does play a huge role in our general wellbeing, sleep, heart health, our mood and energy levels, as well as playing a part in digestion and the nutrients and energy we absorb from food!

Contributions to an unhealthy gut:
* Lack of sleep
* Chronic stress levels
* Chronic inflammation
* Dehydration
* Overconsumption of alcohol
* Smoking
* High sugary/processed diet
* A sedentary lifestyle

How to keep our gut microbiome healthy:

*Consistently having 7-9 hours sleep each evening.

* Reducing stress and cortisol (our stress hormone) levels with breathing exercises, meditation, relaxation.

Being mindful of what contributes to inflammation - stress/chronic sleep deprivation/regular processed foods and high sugar diets/illness and disease/certain medication.

* Upping your fluid intake to 2-3 litres of water every day (not including tea or coffee!!).

* Limiting alcohol intake and staying within the recommended (no more than 14 units per week spread across 3 days).

Food restriction can be the main barrier to creating a healthier relationship with food and with yourself…

Instead of replacing meals for your Easter eggs and other goodies this weekend… THERE IS PLACE FOR BOTH….
Continue with your regular meals throughout the day in addition to your Easter egg - don’t miss out on opportunities throughout the day to consume your usual nutritious foods - have both, create diversity and balance.
With nutrition it’s always what we can ADD into our diets instead of what we can ELIMINATE.
*For more personalised nutrition advice around nutrition targets please send me a direct message*

Easter weekend is one weekend out of a calendar year…
Your progress is not defined by one day or even one weekend EVER! - focus on removing the guilt and focus on creating a healthier relationship with food by enjoying Easter eggs and other goodies this weekend.
*For more details on how to work on food restriction and removing guilt associated with food, please send me a direct message and we can discuss support moving forwards*

Moving forward into next week…
Having a food plan in place and/or meal prepping ahead for next week is the easiest way to move forwards from the weekend and create accountability to your nutrition goals and habits moving forwards.

Ultimately, we must learn how to navigate around these occasions and celebrations we have each year in order to create a healthier relationship with food and with ourselves. I would encourage you to get in touch if you want to improve your relationship with food and please like and share if you found this post helpful.

Happy Easter Weekend! 🐣✨🫶🏻
