Someone shared this with me:

“The woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet.”–Mohadesa Najumi

The more that women tune into their own validation, the more they can change the world.

If you are interested in mental health I think you will find this discussion on Radio 4 really interesting - and it includes one man's experience with EMDR bringing him from a crisis to good mental health.

I think this is like being at peace with who we really are. Some would say: grounded
ness. If this isn’t happening for you and you’ve tried so very hard, but you’ve got ‘stuff’ in your background that stops peace from living within ... then maybe think about EMDR.

a few thoughts... (not mine but from an EMDR therapist)

RETURN TO YOURSELF

Stillness is vital to the world of the soul.
If as you age you become more still, you will discover that stillness can be a great companion.
The fragments of your life will have time to unify, and the places where your soul-shelter is wounded or broken will have time to knit and heal.
You will be able to return to yourself. In this stillness, you will engage your soul.
Many people miss out on themselves completely as they journey through life.
They know others, they know places, they know skills, they know their work, but tragically, they do not know themselves at all.
Ageing can be a lovely time of ripening when you actually meet yourself, indeed maybe for the first time.

There are beautiful lines from T. S. Eliot that say:

'And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.'

If you have EMDR therapy it’s really helpful and very healing to do self-soothing exercises between sessions. One of the ways to help with the ‘between session’ times is to listen to bilateral music. I’ve been trying out a bit of self administered EMDR (this video has lights for your eyes to follow as well as positive words and music) just to see how helpful it can be. Try out this YouTube video. (it’s a little slow for me so I play it at a faster speed). https://youtube.com/watch?v=OVi7yX9X35A&feature=share

When working with a trauma, I find it important to pay attention to the signals the body is sending. Why? Schwartz and Maiburger say: "When the body is left out of the therapeutic equation, the biological effects of trauma can persist and interfere with successful treatment outcomes."
It is for this very reason that when I work with clients I often ask: 'specifically, where in your body do you feel or experience that emotion'. The reason? Because your body provides tremendous feedback about the impact of traumatic events. After I have asked that question, I often ask this follow up question: 'if that pain/feeling had a voice and could talk to you, what would it say'? It's amazing how my clients know exactly what that sensation is saying. Once I get feedback, we can then go forward in an even more targeted way. And guess what ... the trauma and it's effects begin to shift!🤓

This has been a powerful quote for me ... the word hope baffled me at the beginning and I don’t quite know how to explain why it’s the right word ... but something inside me now knows that ‘hope’ is the right word to help us forgive.

I thought this quote from Robert Holden was soooo good! I guess the deal is: we get to dream and have goals, but don't lose today, otherwise we are just plain ole miserable!

Beware of Destination Addiction – a preoccupation with the idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job and with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.

It is astonishing how faithful experience actually is; how it never vanishes completely.

Experience leaves deep traces in us.
It is surprising that years after something has happened to you the needle of thought can hit some groove in the mind and the music of a long vanished event can rise in your soul as fresh and vital as the evening it happened.

This quote often comes to mind ... it’s tough but true. Frankl was interred in concentration camps and he knew what it was to lose his freedom and to be afraid for his life ... this is how he found his way through.
