Woodside provides a variety of trivia games and quizzes for everyone to enjoy.

Recently, a game of “Who Am I?” was played, which proved to be a successful and enjoyable reminiscence session.

Pictures of well-known film stars, singers, and famous figures were displayed on the large TV screen.

Names were eagerly called out until the correct answer was guessed. Once revealed, a lively discussion followed about each person, sparking memories and stories from younger days.

Recalling positive memories has the power to make one feel happy, and good memories can become an important way to boost one's mood.

Reminiscence can brighten one's day and the good feelings it engenders may even last long after the session has ended.

Introducing “Ewe” to the Woodside family!

Ewe was designed and created during a pottery class led by Woodside’s Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Lesley Faccini.

With many years of experience in arts and crafts, Lesley enjoys sharing her skills and knowledge with everyone.

Watching Ewe transform from a simple picture into a real piece brought immense enjoyment to all involved.

Ewe is now drying patiently, eagerly awaiting the next stage — painting! 🐑🎨

Woodside enjoyed another rewarding visit to the Wellness Wednesday group at Baglan RFC.

Aside from meeting new friends, drinking tea, and eating biscuits, it’s the bingo that everyone finds most exciting!

Did Woodside win?
Oh yes — they did! 🎉
Although there was only one winner this week…
As the saying goes: a win is a win!

Woodside loves getting out into the community and trying new activities!

Recently, Woodside joined a fun over-50s jewellery-making class at the local community centre.

A beautiful red and blue necklace, bracelet, and earrings were made.

Woodside met lovely new people, enjoyed a warm cup of tea, and savoured some delicious cake.

A huge thank you to Laura for inviting us — it was a wonderful time and we cannot wait for the next class!

Woodside enjoyed an enlightening art session, blending shades of yellow, orange, and pink to create a stunning sunset scene. Once the paint had dried, a pair of black palm trees were added, completing a striking picture that was simple yet effective to create.
One is never too old to learn new skills!

Woodside enjoyed a memorable armchair afternoon at the Royal Albert Hall watching 'The Festival of Welsh Male Voice Choirs'.

The choir comprised of approximately 850 choristers, representing 25 choirs from Wales and three from England.

The repertoire featured a rich selection of traditional and contemporary songs, all specially arranged for male voice choirs.

Under the direction of the world-renowned Dr Alwyn Humphreys MBE, the performance was both powerful and uplifting.

It was a highly entertaining and moving afternoon, with stirring songs and hymns that left a lasting impression on all who attended.

On cold days, Woodside keeps warm whilst watching and afternoon film, with a hot drink in hand.

There was a requested to watch the film Charade (1963).

The leading stars were Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.
The film had that perfect blend of elegance, romance, suspense, and witty dialogue. Paris as the backdrop gives it such a timeless, glamorous feel, and Henry Mancini’s score instantly sets the mood. It’s often called “the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made,” which feels spot-on.
It’s easy to see why revisiting Charade would spark warm memories — it carries that classic early-60s charm that’s both comforting and clever.

Old films have a way of unlocking not just scenes and music, but whole moments from our own lives too.
It’s often the little details — a line of dialogue, a costume, a familiar actor — that bring the strongest memories back.

As Woodside recently experienced white flakes drifting down from the sky, it felt only fitting to host an armchair travel session focused on Antarctica ❄️

During the session, residents learned fascinating facts about the world’s most remote continent:

Antarctica is only accessible to tourists between November and early March, when temperatures typically hover in the low to mid-30s Fahrenheit.

Despite the cold, there’s no shortage of unforgettable experiences. Visitors can explore the continent’s unique geography, kayak alongside seals, or even brave a polar plunge—each adventure offering brag-worthy stories to share back home.

Only about 10,000 people visit Antarctica each year, making it the least visited continent on Earth.
It is strongly protected by an international agreement, and all cruise operators must follow strict guidelines set by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) to preserve its fragile ecosystem.

To further protect the environment, only 100 people are allowed on land at a time, which is why smaller ships are preferred. Once ashore, visitors may encounter seals, penguins, seabirds, and scientific research stations. Some of these stations are still active today, while others have been preserved as historical sites, offering a glimpse into how early Antarctic explorers lived and worked.

The untouched wilderness of Antarctica is truly unlike anywhere else on Earth—a destination that remains one of the planet’s last great frontiers.

This travel session was a minefield of interesting Icelantic information!
