As well as the sponsored 'yomp' yesterday (06/09/2025 the St John East Nottinghamshire network were out in force at Fernwood where our Newark Cadet group now meet, as part of the Save a Life September campaign helping members of the public learn and practice vital first aid skills. We would also like to say thank you to Cllr Stephen Pearson from Nottinghamshire County Council who presented us with a cheque for £250. All our cadet units in Newark (Fernwood), Sherwood Forest (Bilsthorpe) and Worksop start their autumn term meetings this coming week.

Finally the end and our welcome! Thank you Fernwood Village Hall and Fernwood Parish Council for accommodating g us!

My initial assessment of today, from just giving, cheques sent to me and cash donated on route and at the community engagement stall at Fernwood is £624.25 I need to double check and reconcile. Everything i have been pledged £50 in cash as well which if it comes in will take it a lot higher!

Today wasn’t entirely as planned sadly David Daft suffered blisters n southell, considering they started at edwinstow he was amazing. We lost time and to manage injury we cut 3 miles or so and I carried on alone until Fernwood services when Dave joined me for the last kilometre, so in all it was 28 miles walked. Thank you Helen my long suffering wife who supported us in the CSU all the way. These photos are from Southwell when we set off before Dave’s blisters became too much for him. Some videos to follow!
