⛔️ We reduce demands placed on ADHD kids ⛔️ so that we can show them how environments can be adapted to support their needs.

Only when this is happening will their nervous systems FEEL it. Feeling means the system signals safety, more comfort & more ability. So in fact by doing less we show ourselves there is room for more, a choice we make for ourselves - that is not directed at us.

This is being the change you wish to see. In time we hand this advocating batton over to our teens & they do this for themselves.

Less really does become more & resilience follows.

πŸ’« Mental health through the lens of ADHD & Autism matters πŸ’« a lot, right!! What do you feel?

I'll say it again - coaching is not therapy, unless both trainings are in place, though I see the water getting muddier. The first thing I do, especially with my teens, is check in that they have spoken to their therapist βœ”οΈ. And if not, well it's a coaches job to help with the right reminder to do so πŸ˜‰.

Many will argue that a good therapist will be able to work with all & any minds. I simply don't agree. I have had too many incidents where ADHD &/or Autistic ways of seeing, interacting & communicating has not been taken into consideration or fully understood. I believe this does require specific training, a passion for & likely personal experience with neurocomplexity.

Of course the right 'fit' is also essential for the ability to talk openly but this sits alongside robust training & qualifications.

We may agree to disagree, love to hear your thoughts?

πŸ₯ ADHD & over eating πŸ₯ our relationship with food is complicated! Does this resonate❓️

πŸ‹ Dopamine isn't always lower bit it is variable & when it dips we seek stimulation.

πŸ₯‘ Smoothies for ADHD Support 🫐 Comment SMOOTHIE for my latest recipe.

My camera roll has over 300 images of smoothies, I am listing below the reasons why I think there are the 'nutrition must have' in ADHD family support.

πŸ₯‘ Quick & easy to make from freezer & cupboard ingredients - no cooking!
πŸ₯‘ Filling even if sharing a recipe, a good breakfast even if you are not hungry.
πŸ₯‘ Great for on the go, student & work friendly.
πŸ₯‘ Often a great option to get nutrients into selective eaters.
πŸ₯‘ Recipes kids can follow & make with you.
πŸ₯‘ Pack a nutrient dense punch & noticeable benefits - really!
πŸ₯‘ Great afternoon pick me up snack to avoid eating processed food.
πŸ₯‘ Less liquid & instead of smoothie in a glass you have a smoothie bowl, to whichnyouncan add crunchy toppings!

🫐 Love to hear what you think of this recipe?

πŸ’— Autistic Burnout πŸ’— is deeply complex & all consuming for families (this post contains sensitive content). I use analogies, climbing in this instance, because I find them comforting. They can help us distance our minds from the chaos.

πŸ’— If we could take a wand to magic away it's unique pain I know we would - for now I hope we can be comforted in shared experiences.

πŸ’— I appreciate symptomalogy will be different in others & dependent on many factors. Just able or not being being able to attend school being another big challenge.

πŸ’— Please share you own learns in comments so others can benefit. Thank youπŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—.

πŸ˜‹ Eat breakfast ADHDers, eat breakfast πŸ˜‹ it really is the single most important thing you will do to support yourself. Share your favourite in comments?

πŸ˜‹ Without breakfast we can't work on mindset (no brain fuel) or lifestyle (no body fuel).

πŸ˜‹ Breakfast balances blood sugar, stabalising mood, supporting concentration.

πŸ˜‹ Everytime we miss breakfast we miss an important chance to bring in micronutrient vitamins & minerals.

πŸ˜‹ Breakfast is a non negotiable for thosenusing medication as support.

πŸ˜‹ If you need ideas just ask, there a miriad of options at home, on the go, in the school bus, at your desk - no excuses team!

πŸ€“ Choline for ADHD πŸ€“ vital for brain support. Comment EGG for this new recipe 🀩.

Choline is the precurser to our chemical messenger acetylecholine, supporting working memory, mood & cognitive function. In addition research shows it may help to ease involuntary muscle movements!

Eggs & broccoli are great food sources of choline, hence the recipe, but so to is soy. If you can't eat eggs use scrambled tofu!
Enjoy!

☯️ The interplay of ADHD & Autism ☯️ just touching the surface here but a push pull is definately there for many of us?

☯️ Being so individual, even if you are formally or self identifed with both neurotypes it will show up in different ways & change throughout a lifetime.

☯️ It would be lovely to know how it shows up for you or your family?

☯️ Happy to share co-occuring stats - they currently look lower in children as data wait to catch up.

🚘 ADHDers & busy brains 🚘 love to know what you think of this pacing exercise ⁉️. Comment a thumbs up πŸ‘ so I know your in.

Our fast paced, interest led brains, when stimulation is under contol are amazing!

With school holidays & more time spent in the car on day trips I thought it would be a great mindful practise. Let's see?!

πŸ’« Autism & ADHD intersect πŸ’« more often than we imagine. I can only speak to my own recent reflections.

My overiding feelings are for our children. Even when we do all we can (I know the advocating is immense) they still have few choices & so cope rather than thrive.

I also appreciate & want to acknowledge that I refer here to Autism (Level 1). What I do know intimately of this space though is low support still needs support ❣️.
