Trying to squeeze back into that swimsuit, bikini or summer dress?

Let me guess…
You’re training hard, eating salad every day for lunch…
…and still not seeing any changes. 😩

Here’s the truth: it’s probably not your effort it’s your hormones.

Cortisol, our stress hormone, doesn’t just spike when we’re anxious.
It rises when we train hard, restrict food too much, or don’t eat enough protein especially for women in midlife.

➡️ If you’re working out 3 times a week, you should be getting 80–120g of protein a day.
That’s not easy especially if you don’t love protein powders (you’re not alone there!).

But protein is key for fat loss, muscle tone, energy, and even hormone balance.
Great sources include:
-Chicken
-Fish
-Low-fat cheese
-Greek yoghurt & cottage cheese
-Chickpeas, lentils, tofu, beans

Here are some top tips.

🦩Hot flushes meet heatwaves? Here’s how to stay cool during perimenopause:

🦩 Keep it light – Wear loose, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, or bamboo. Ditch synthetic fibres!
🦩Fan it out –Keep a handheld or desk fan nearby. A cooling face mist or wet flannel in the fridge also works wonders.

🦩Cool down – Take lukewarm baths or showers. Pop a cold, damp towel on your neck or wrists for quick relief.

🦩Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – Aim for 2–3 litres of cold water a day. Add ice and a slice of lemon or cucumber.

🦩Skip the booze – Alcohol can trigger or worsen hot flushes. Try a refreshing mocktail instead.

🦩Ease up on exercise – If you usually work out, go earlier or later in the day and opt for gentler movement on hotter days.

🦩Be kind to yourself – perimenopause and heat don’t mix well, but with a few smart changes, you can feel a whole lot better.

The Hidden Lockdown

I had a conversation today that really stuck with me.

A friend and I were reminiscing about how outgoing we used to be, travelling, trying new things, exploring new places without hesitation. She laughed and said, “Not now, I’m too old!” She’s only 48.

Then she quietly admitted, “I never go out. I hate the thought of driving long distances, going somewhere new, or doing anything outside my routine.”

It hit me like a brick—this is not just about age. This is menopause-induced anxiety. The silent, creeping kind that convinces you the world is too much. That keeps you in, holds you back, and slowly dims the spark you once had.

But here’s the truth:
You are not too old.
You are not alone.
And this is not the end—it can be the beginning of something better.
