Myfolks Support for the elderly people you love the most at the press of a button.

10/04/2026

There’s been a little pause from me recently… but behind the scenes, the thinking hasn’t stopped.

At Myfolks, we’ve been reflecting on where we go next and how much more we can do.

Because what we’re seeing every day is this:
social connection isn’t a “nice to have” — it’s preventative health.

When people are left isolated, the risks don’t just stay emotional. They become physical.
Stroke. Dementia. Diabetes. Heart disease.

And the truth is, by the time we react, it’s often too late.

That’s why we’re focused on getting ahead of it.
Supporting people to stay well in their own homes through something simple, but powerful… human connection 💜

I’m also really excited to share that Myfolks has been selected to join an accelerator programme with the National Innovation Centre for Ageing and the Lifted Programme.

Grateful for the opportunity, and even more motivated for what comes next.

Watch this space.

March is Vascular Awareness Month

When we think about vascular health, heart attacks and strokes often come to mind. But there’s another condition closely linked to our blood vessels that affects thousands of families across the UK: vascular dementia.

Vascular dementia is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain, often following strokes or small vessel disease. It can impact memory, thinking, mood, and independence, sometimes gradually, sometimes suddenly.

At Myfolks, we see every day how the right support can make a real difference. Regular social interaction, gentle activity, routine, and companionship are not just “nice to have” — they are powerful protective factors for wellbeing.

Our social visits help older adults stay connected, active, and supported at home, which can be especially important for those living with vascular conditions or cognitive changes.

This Vascular Awareness Month, a few simple actions can help protect brain and heart health:

💜 Stay socially connected
💜 Keep moving, even small daily activity helps
💜 Manage blood pressure and health conditions
💜 Look out for changes in memory or behaviour
💜 Reach out for support early

Because prevention, connection, and companionship matter.

If you are supporting a loved one living with vascular dementia or worried about changes you’ve noticed, you are not alone. We’re here to help.

This moment takes us back to last June, at the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme Big Pitch.

It was an opportunity to talk about something that often gets overlooked, how much difference early support, companionship, and simple human connection can make for older people and their families.

A conversation.
A shared understanding.
A small moment that points to something bigger.

Myfolks was created to help families support the people they love earlier, locally, and in ways that prevent problems from escalating later on.

As we move through this year, we’re looking forward to sharing more about our progress, what we’re learning, and what’s coming next.

Thank you to everyone who stopped, listened, and took the time to talk with us 💜

More people in the UK are living into their 80s and beyond — a milestone worth celebrating.
But it brings real practical and financial realities many families aren’t prepared for.

📈 The UK population aged 65 and over is growing significantly, with more people in the oldest age groups than ever before.

Here’s the reality most of us don’t talk about:

✔ The NHS covers health needs, not most social care support.
✔ Help with everyday living, routines, mobility, and companionship is typically arranged through local authorities and often chargeable.
✔ Families often assume the NHS will cover care … until they face assessments, means-testing, and unexpected costs.

That gap between expectation and reality has practical, emotional, and financial consequences:

* Families scrambling to navigate assessments
* Unexpected care bills while juggling work and life
* Older people going without the support that keeps them well at home

Longevity is a big win — but living longer comfortably needs planning, not assumption.

At Myfolks, we focus on real-life planning: prevention, connection, everyday support, and understanding what comes next before it arrives.

A longer life should be a richer one — not a rushed scramble for answers.

We pause to remember and honour those who sacrificed so much for our freedoms. At Myfolks, we are grateful to those who served and continue to serve with courage and dedication.

Many of the people we visit carry their own memories of loved ones who served, or who were lost during times of conflict. Their stories and reflections are precious reminders of the personal side of remembrance — moments of love, loss, and resilience that deserve to be heard and honoured alongside the fallen.

At this time of reflection, let’s take a moment to connect with the elderly in our communities and listen to their experiences — whether through a visit, a call, or simply by sharing a quiet conversation. It’s through these connections that we carry forward their memories and help preserve their legacy.

🌺 We will remember them. 🌺

💜 Thursday Thoughts with Louise

This week finds me back home in Newcastle and as always, there’s something comforting about being here in the North East.

By chance, I’ve got one of Trainor Gym’s Shufflers with me today, which we’ll be delivering to a Myfolks client who has mobility issues. We’re hopeful it’ll help ease her pain and keep her moving more comfortably, small changes like this can make such a difference.

Being home got me thinking about what “home” really means to so many of the people we support.
It’s something we hear often: “I just want to go home.”

But for many, that phrase isn’t about a specific building. It’s about safety, familiarity, and belonging. It’s about wanting to feel anchored again when the world around them feels confusing or unfamiliar.

When someone says they want to go home, try asking:

🏡 What did their home look like?
💬 Who was there?
🍽 What dinner do they remember having?
🎨 What colour was the front door?

By inviting them to revisit those memories, you’re helping them reconnect to a sense of comfort and identity, even if they can’t physically return to that place.

Sometimes, home isn’t a location. It’s a feeling.

💜 Excited to share our A–Z guides from Myfolks! 💜

Caring for ageing parents can be both rewarding and overwhelming. That’s why we’ve created two A–Z guides packed with practical tips, emotional support, and everyday advice to make the journey a little easier.

📘 A–Z for Those Caring for Elderly Parents – covers everything from Adaptations Audits and Hospital Bags to Juggling, Technology, and Zen.

📗 A–Z of Supporting Ageing Parents – highlights key topics like Accepting Help, Nutrition, Power of Attorney, and Sun-downing.

Each one is designed to give carers and families the knowledge and reassurance they need — because sometimes, a little guidance can make a big difference.

✨ Thursday Thoughts ✨

When caring for ageing parents or loved ones, one of the hardest questions is: when is the right time to step in?
Do they really need help? Are we interfering? Or are we not doing enough?

That’s why having conversations early makes such a difference. When everything is still going well, take the time to talk about:
✅ What their wishes are
✅ What support might look like – live-in carers, care homes, or other options
✅ Where important documents are kept
✅ Financial arrangements and expectations

Planning ahead doesn’t take away the difficulty of the moment, but it does give you clarity, confidence, and peace of mind when decisions need to be made.

💜 At Myfolks, we know how overwhelming these choices can feel. If you’d like to chat through options, I’m always happy to listen and help.

The key takeaway: It’s never too early to plan… but it can be too late.

In the meantime, don’t forget to live well and enjoy the great times together.

💜 International Day of Older Persons – 1 October 💜

Today, the UN reminds us that older persons have the right to full enjoyment of life and to be active advocates for their own dignity, inclusion, and wellbeing.

At Myfolks, we live this every day. Our work is built on one belief: ageing should never mean being left behind. It should mean being celebrated, supported, and heard.

🔎 Why this matters:

Older persons contribute wisdom, resilience, and value to our communities.

They deserve more than care — they deserve connection, joy, and purpose.

Their rights to health, safety, and participation must be protected and championed.

👣 How we can all help:

Listen to the voices and stories of older people.

Celebrate their role in shaping families, communities, and society.

Act by supporting initiatives that protect their rights and ensure dignity in ageing.

At Myfolks, we believe every day is International Day of Older Persons. Let’s commit to creating communities where everyone can age with pride, purpose, and belonging.
