Did you know, the claim that the skin absorbs 60% of everything that it comes into contact with, is actually a myth!?

The outermost layer of the skin, the Stratum Corneum, is a highly effective barrier that prevents most substances from passing through.
Most compounds in cosmetic skincare are designed to work locally, meaning they reach the epidermis, and are rarely absorbed into the dermal layers.

DOES THIS MEAN MY SKINCARE ISN'T WORKING?

No, but there is a difference between 'absorption' and 'pe*******on' that you need to be aware of.
✨Penetration explains when a substance passes through the Stratum Cornuem.
✨Absortion means a substance has entered the blood stream and circulates throughout the body.
Different skincare products are formulated to work at specific skin layers depending on the purpose intended.

For example, anti-ageing products often contain anti-oxidants that pe*****te the startum corneum to aid the breakdown of free radicals which prevents the breakdown of collagen.
And moisturisers are created to stay on or within the outer layers of the skin rather than pe*****te deeply!

If a skincare or cosmetic ingredient reaches the bloodstream, it could be classified as 'medicine' rather than a 'cosmetic' - a critical distinction, as medicinal products are subject to legal rigourous testing to ensure safety.
