Tip #3 for avoiding a chronic back pain flareup during the festive season is to move your body regularly. Sitting for too long is common at Christmas time (e.g. think extra car journeys, extra desk/ laptop tike to finish tasks, sitting for social events or even just more time watching tv etc. Sitting more than usual can make you tighten or stiffen up, increasing the risk of exacerbating back pain and triggering a flare-up. Get up regularly and move/ walk around the house, swap chairs and take short walks and breaks.

Another top tip for avoiding chronic back pain flareups during the festive season is to be cautious with 'seasonal tasks' such as wrapping and decorating. Take regular movement breaks and ask for help where available. Wrapping gifts on a dining table might be better for your back than sitting awkwardly on the floor or bed to wrap - talking from personal experience here!

Taking on too many activities/tasks can be overwhelming and exhausting . Fatigue can be a risk factor for triggering a back pain flare up or exacerbation. If you are trying to avoid flare ups, be cautious about tasks that will push you beyond your limits physically, emotionally, or energetically .
