🔷 Newry Street Unite 🔷

Lovely to meet up with Jennifer and Ann at Newry Street Unite this afternoon and discuss the amazing services they provide to the local community. From mums and toddlers right through all age groups their offerings are extremely positive and encouraging.

It is brilliant that Community Advice services will be available in the Centre from next month, a much welcome service to help all in the community. 😊

Places like this are central to our communities, inspiring to see their impact and it’s exciting to hear about their projects moving forward. Their overall aim is providing structures and access to services for the people of the area in order that all can reach their full potential. Well done to the team on their hard work and a big thanks for the welcome today as we made plans to link up on events and promoting services going forward.

We are supporting Men’s Health Week 13th – 19th June 2022 2022

During 2022, the theme for Ireland is 'MISSION: isPOSSIBLE' and the call to men (and those who support the health of men) is: 'THE ACTION STARTS WITH YOU'

Today’s theme is: Prevention is better than cure
Cancer awareness and heart health are two areas where this can be realistically achieved.
Did you know that during there are a number of steps that men could take to cut their cancer risk? For example, making small healthy lifestyle choices every day; knowing the signs of cancer; checking for changes in your body; getting screening tests; asking to be checked out if you notice anything unusual or if you’re worried about your health.
To find out more about cancer, how to avoid it, and where to get support if you have it, visit: www.cancerfocusni.org/cancer-prevention
Take practical steps to look after your heart health.

Verve Newry & Mourne Health trainer in action! Caolain from the Respect Project

Well done to the parents of our Newry United teams who participated in free health checks which were done today as part of our health and Well Being programme.

The health checks involved blood pressure readings, body fat measurements, BMI, BMR scores etc.

Following on from today’s health checks participants have the opportunity to get involved in a FREE 1 to 1 health support programme, whereby participants receive individual coaching on areas such as diet and nutrition, fitness and exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol intake etc

The health checks were carried out by our very own project leader, Caolain, who recently completed a level 3 health trainer qualification as part of our involvement in the Verve Network (Newry & Mourne).

The Verve Network is a collective of 13 community groups in the Newry and Mourne area that share information and work together for the benefit of the communities we serve.
