I was thrilled to be given a box of these beautifully baked, stunningly crafted Halloween cupcakes by the lovely Ellie of Baked By A Coeliac - who bakes everything in her exclusively gluten free kitchen, making everything suitable for coeliacs.

As many coeliac sufferers know, gluten free options aren’t enough for us - it’s so important to know that food is prepared in a safe environment, so knowing that this lady is a coeliac sufferer herself instantly put me at ease. She totally gets it! 🤩🥳

The cakes were absolutely delicious, moist and undeniably moorish. The flavours were so well balanced and you’d absolutely not know they were gluten free! Not only that, they looked amazing! The attention to detail in decoration and design was first class. Even the presentation was stunning. They came in an attractive box with a cellophane window, and all allergens clearly stated in a sticker. This is SO important!

I’m excited to try more of Ellie’s bakes. Not only is she an amazing, conscientious baker, but she clearly cares about her clientele and fellow coeliacs.

Ellie will be selling her goodies at Kicking off Christmas in Newtown this weekend. Please do go and see her before all her cakes sell out!

🌟Hummingbird lounge, Newtown, Powys🌟

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Hummingbird Lounge last weekend. I’ve been meaning to for a while, and goodness knows why I didn’t go sooner!

Hummingbird Lounge is run by Johnal, a former fork-lift instructor, who has a passion for his community and ensuring all who visit the establishment can enjoy the wholesome Caribbean food on offer 🌶️🥥🍠

From spicy jerk wings to prawn curry, Johnal has worked tirelessly to ensure that there is something for everyone on the menu. I was honoured to be given a tour of the kitchen and was impressed by the meticulous order of the kitchen utensils, food preparation and mindfulness of not only Johnal, but his team aswell 🥰

I opted for the “Wings Combo”, which is a trio of Jerk chicken, BBQ and Honey glazed chicken wings served with coleslaw and a salad which was beautifully presented, I loved the addition of mango and pineapple. It was fresh and light which complimented the wings perfectly. I also had a side of Jamaican style rice and peas which were slightly spicy but not too overbearing. Absolutely perfect!

The attention to detail to not only the food, but in the preparation and mindfulness of those with coeliac disease, food intolerances and allergies made my coeliac heart sing!

Do go and try this place out, you can literally feel the love that goes into the food and the service was absolutely fantastic.

Hummingbird Lounge, I will be back, and I want to try everything on the menu! 😍

EDIT: Some changes have been made to the menu since the time of print. Also do state that you have CD when you arrive and I know that Johnal and team will bend over backwards to accommodate and make your dining experience safe as old Welsh houses!
