Reverse Pigeon Pose (Sucirandhrasana) is a supine variation of Half Pigeon Pose. This pose is also known as Eye of the Needle Pose or Reclined Pigeon Pose. It is a beginner level variation which is a gentle hip opener and gives a good hamstring stretch. The Hamstring stretch is the same as Half Pigeon pose, but since it is performed in a supine position, it becomes easier and can be performed by beginners.
Reverse Pigeon Pose is mainly used as a warm-up pose in the beginning of the Yoga Sequences such as Hip Opening Yoga Sequence, Yoga Sequence for Spine etc. It can also be used as a cooling down pose after an intensive Power Yoga practice. This pose is very helpful to Runners and widely used by them. Runners usually have tight hamstrings due to running practice. This pose helps release tension in the hamstrings area and increases the mobility of the hip flexors.
It benefits the muscles of the Lower Back, Gluteus, Hamstrings, Hips, Hips-External, Pelvic.
