May is Stroke Awareness Month 💜

A stroke can happen quickly and without warning, which is why knowing the signs is so important. In the UK, around 100,000 people have a stroke each year, and one happens about every five minutes.

A simple way to remember the signs is F.A.S.T.

Face – has one side of the face dropped?
Arms – can they raise both arms?
Speech – is their speech slurred or confused?
Time – call 999 immediately.

This month is a good reminder for all of us to take a moment, learn the signs, and share them with the people around us. You never know when this information could help someone get the urgent care they need. Acting quickly really can make a difference.

Before joining Unique, Emma had spent six years managing a call centre and had no background in care at all.

But during Covid, she found herself wanting something different. Work that felt more personal, more people-focused, and more meaningful.

Five years later, she is now our Operational Coordinator for the North Down area.
