I am a strong advocate for mindfulness. I bang on about it a lot 😂 so here’s some things about what it is and how it is helpful.
What is mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practise of gaining, and sustaining, awareness of the contents of one’s own mind in the present moment.
In layman’s terms, mindfullness practise puts us in control of our own thoughts. Recognising when they are ‘drifting’ from what we want to think about, and shifting our thoughts back to the present moment. Being able to control your thoughts to focus on the ‘here and now’ is mindful thinking.
The benefits of mindfulness
- can reduces stress
- can reduce anxiety
- can reduce depression
- can stop overthinking
- can stop obsessive thoughts
- can improve blood pressure
- can improve sleep
- and many many more!
You do not have to sit quietly or meditate to be mindful. You can be mindful at any stage of the day, be it while at work, during dinner, at the gym, or anywhere really!
With practise, mindfulness can become second nature and allows us to ‘give our busy minds a rest’
Now doesn’t that sound nice?
