🌸 It's C-Section Awareness Month and I want to talk about something that doesn't get nearly enough attention.
You grew and birthed a baby through 7 layers of tissue. SEVEN.
Skin. Fat. Fascia. Muscle. Peritoneum. Uterus. Amniotic sac
Every single one of those layers heals with scar tissue, and that scar tissue can cause tightness, numbness, a shelf of skin above the scar, pulling when you stand up straight, and even affect your pelvic floor and core strength.
And yet so many new mums are just told "give it time." 💛
Here's what I want you to know:
👉 You don't have to just live with it.
👉 Your scar tightness, overhang, or discomfort is not something you have to accept.
👉 Scars take up to 2 years to fully heal and changes can happen even decades later.
👉 There are clinicians who specialise in exactly this, and I'm one of them.
I'm Josie, a specialist Women's Pelvic Health Physiotherapist based in East Lothian. I work with postnatal women to assess and treat c-section scars, releasing tightness, restoring sensation, and helping you feel like yourself again.
Whether your baby arrived 6 weeks ago or 6 years ago, it is never too late to get support. You deserve to feel strong, comfortable and confident in your body again. 💪
