"The quantity of interactions doesn’t do much to reduce loneliness. The quality does. It's not the lack of social contact that drives loneliness; it's the lack of perceived social value to others that makes people feel lonely. That’s why the opposite of loneliness isn’t having more people around you. It’s the feeling that you matter to the people around you."

New research shows that bilingualism strengthens brain connectivity, especially when a second language is learned in childhood. Bilingualism suppors better communication between brain regions, particularly between the cerebellum and the left frontal cortex, leading to improved cognitive flexibility and resilience against aging. This finding underscores the benefits of bilingualism for brain health, attention, and cognitive performance. Learning a second language early in life boosts the brain's ability to form efficient networks, contributing to lifelong brain efficiency.

"Screen-heavy households linked to poor language development in kids.
'Child language researchers emphasize the importance of everyday interactions with adults in early language development, where children are actively involved.' [...]
'Estonian scientists find that screens can have a negative effect on children’s language development. They surveyed hundreds of families about their screen use and their young children’s language abilities, and found that no form of screen use had a positive effect on language skills. Time spent gaming had a notable negative effect on language skills, regardless of whether the child or adults in the family played.'
Their study reveals that children’s screen use patterns are similar to those of their parents."
“While reading ebooks and playing some educational games may offer language learning opportunities, especially for older children, research shows that during the first years of life, the most influential factor is everyday dyadic face-to-face parent-child verbal interaction”

Researchers found that higher screen use in families is associated with poorer language skills in young children. The study emphasizes the importance of parent-child interactions for language development, especially in screen-heavy households.

'Study finds that perceptions of adulthood—specifically, how much individuals believe they have achieved what it takes to be an adult—are associated with their mental health. These perceptions were linked to nearly every index of mental health, particularly those assessing negative emotions.'

Individuals who perceive themselves as having achieved adulthood tend to report better mental health, especially lower negative emotions. These findings suggest that how people view their adult status may influence emotional well-being across life stages.

❗Excessive photo editing on social media can create unrealistic standards of beauty, leading to a harmful cycle of comparison and self-doubt. When people constantly see heavily edited images, they may feel pressured to conform to these unattainable ideals, which can erode their self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
❗Additionally, the constant exposure to perfected images can distort one's perception of reality, making it difficult to appreciate genuine beauty in oneself and others. There's a great difference between adding some highlights or enhanced colours to photos, versus heavily editing oneself to adhere to unrealistic beauty standards.

It's crucial to promote authenticity and celebrate diverse forms of beauty to counteract the negative effects of photo editing culture.
