This Mindful March, we are continuing to welcome new Happiness Champions to our community.

Happiness Champions are vital in our work to grow the Action for Happiness movement across Northamptonshire.

Evaluation data shows that 96% of our Champions feel better equipped to work with others to build a happier Northamptonshire following the training.

It's Mindful March — and today's International Day of Happiness lands right in the middle of it for good reason.

Awareness is one of the 10 Keys to Happier Living: the practice of choosing where your attention goes, rather than letting your devices choose for you.

This year's theme explores exactly that — the relationship between social media and our happiness. There's no single right way to use technology. And when we bring a little more awareness to how we use it, and how we treat others online, things genuinely change.

Choose — Be mindful of when and how you use social media. Pause. Ask yourself what you actually want right now.

Connect — Use technology to deepen real relationships. Phone a friend. Make plans. Seek out communities that genuinely mean something to you.

Curate — Bloom scroll, don't doom scroll. Follow positive accounts. Be kind in the comments. Share ideas that uplift.
Small choices, made collectively, build a happier and kinder world — online and offline.

On 19 March, the World Happiness Report 2026 is published — and Action for Happiness is hosting a special live event to share the findings.

This year's report focuses on social media and happiness, drawing on the latest global data to examine how technology is shaping wellbeing around the world.

All 193 United Nations member states have adopted a resolution calling for happiness to be given greater priority. People everywhere are recognising that progress should be about increasing human wellbeing — not just growing the economy.

Every year on March 20th, the world marks the UN International Day of Happiness — coordinated by Action for Happiness, a movement of people from 160 countries.

This year's theme? The relationship between social media and happiness.

How we use technology. How we treat each other online. And how small, thoughtful choices can make a real difference — for ourselves and for everyone around us.

We can do so much more when we work together

This Mindful March, we’re celebrating the power of Awareness. 🤝✨

The recent University of Northampton evaluation found that our Community of Practice Events provide vital spaces for learning together to build sustained engagement.

It allows local members, champions, volunteers, organisations and leaders to:

✅ Connect deeply rather than duplicating work.
✅ Share insights on what actually works for our residents.
✅ Speak a shared language of wellbeing across the county.

To help make this happen, we also host monthly Circles of Practice, as well as our quarterly in-person gatherings.

These are our dedicated online events where we support our community to truly embed the 10 Keys to Happier Living into their own lives and the neighbourhoods they serve. It’s a space to tune in, share learning, and take action together. 💡🌿

As one of our members shared: "Networking across organisations has been enhanced... I have drawn on shared experiences to strengthen peer support."
