INTERNATIONAL ANGELMAN DAY
15TH FEBRUARY 2026
•
Today, 15th February, we are raising awareness for World Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day 💙
•
Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a rare neurogenetic disorder that affects approximately 1 in 15,000 people — around 500,000 individuals worldwide.
•
It impacts the nervous system and causes severe developmental delays, little or no speech, balance issues, motor impairment, and often debilitating seizures.
•
Some individuals never walk, and most do not speak. Disrupted sleep cycles can also be a significant challenge for both individuals and their caregivers.
•
People with Angelman syndrome are often known for their happy, excitable demeanour and love of social interaction 💙
•
Their smiles and laughter can truly light up a room.💙
•
Angelman syndrome is caused by changes on chromosome 15 and is usually identified in early childhood. Individuals require continuous lifelong care and support, are unable to live independently, and have a normal life expectancy.
•
At The Haven, we honour every individual’s unique journey and provide compassionate, specialist support every step of the way ✨
•
Help us celebrate our fabulous clients and families today by wearing blue 💙 — reminding us that every act of support makes a difference.
