INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY PART 1 🤍
In Thursdays session, we explored the theme of International Women’s Day and what it means for girls and women around the world 🌍
We began with an open discussion about what we enjoy about being a girl, including the positive qualities, strengths and experiences the group valued. We also reflected on the challenges girls sometimes face 👧
Next we spoke about why International Women’s Day is celebrated, highlighting how it’s a day to recognise women’s achievements, celebrate progress, and how we can continue working towards equality 👏🏽
The group discussed how things have changed over the years, including improvements in rights, opportunities and how women’s voices are heard today compared to the past 🗣️
After this, each young person chose an inspirational female figure to learn about. The options included:
Rosa Parks – known for her courage in the fight for civil rights 🚌
Jane Goodall – world‑famous scientist and animal conservationist 🐵
Malala Yousafzai – advocate for girls’ education and the youngest Nobel Prize winner 📚
Amelia Earhart – pioneering female pilot who became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic ✈️
Everybody selected one icon and began exploring who they were, what they achieved, and why they remain inspirational today 👑
This part of the session encouraged the group to think about the power of women’s voices, bravery, and leadership 💪🏽
