Workshops & Group Sessions (Equestrian Focus)

For riders, fitness needs to complement your sport, not exhaust you before you get in the saddle.

Equestrian fitness workshops and small group sessions can be incredibly valuable for:
• Core stability specific to riding
• Pelvic control and alignment
• Hip mobility
• Lower leg stability
• Injury prevention for common rider issues (lower back, hips, shoulders)
• Understanding asymmetry in the saddle

Group settings can also:
• Build community
• Increase motivation
• Allow sport-specific discussion
• Provide education alongside exercise

When done correctly, equestrian fitness isn’t about “just getting stronger” it’s about improving position, balance, and communication with your horse.

Online Training: what support should you expect?

Online training isn’t just receiving a PDF and being left alone.

If you’re choosing online coaching, consider:
• Is there an initial consultation?
• Are health history and injuries screened properly?
• How often are check-ins?
• Is feedback personalised?
• Can you ask questions easily?
• Are programs adjusted based on flare-ups or progress?

For clients managing health conditions, online support should still feel structured, responsive, and safe.

It should never feel like you’re navigating complex symptoms alone.

In-Person Training: who is it best for?

In-person training can be particularly beneficial if:
• You’re new to exercise
• You’re rehabilitating an injury
• You struggle with technique or confidence
• You value real-time correction and reassurance

With illness or injury, being able to observe movement closely, adjust load immediately, and respond to symptoms on the spot can make a significant difference.

It also allows for relationship building and communication in a way that some clients really thrive on.

Online or In Person: what suits you best?

There isn’t one “better” option, only what suits you.

Ask yourself:
• Do I need hands-on guidance?
• Do I feel confident training independently?
• Do I need flexibility around time and location?
• Do I value in-person accountability?

Both online and in-person training can be effective.

The key is choosing a format that fits your lifestyle, personality, and level of support needed.

28 days done and honestly… it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

I’ve seen so many positive changes; weight shifting, clearer skin, better energy, improved gut health, less pain, and noticeable hormone + cycle changes. It’s been one of those processes that quietly proves to you that your body wants to feel good when you give it the chance.

Now I’m into the reintroduction phase. I’ve started with egg yolk 🥚 and I’ll be adding one new food every 5 days to see what works and what doesn’t. There are quite a few things on the list that I don’t cook with often anyway, or already know don’t agree with me so I’m hoping this stage won’t take too long. It’s less about restriction now and more about clarity.

Once I’ve worked through that, the goal is to move into an anti-inflammatory way of eating long term. Real life still exists; holidays, meals out, spontaneous plans - but having a baseline that supports my body is what matters.

Next focus: sleep. Something I’ve struggled with for years, especially as a stimulant user (legally, prescribed I might add), and I know it’s a huge piece of the puzzle.

Alongside that, I want to be more intentional about stress management, lymphatic drainage, and consistent movement not perfection, just supportive habits that add up.

This month wasn’t about being “good”, it was about learning. And I’m excited to keep going

Consultations: setting the right foundations

A good consultation should feel thorough, not rushed.

Many trainers offer free consultations, and that can be great; but it’s important to understand what’s included.

For me, a paid consultation includes:
• 90 minutes
• 3D body scan
• Full discussion of goals, lifestyle, and health history
• Movement screen
• Gym walk-through
• Education around posture, engagement, and progression
• A structured follow-up programme

When injury or illness is involved, assessment matters.

Rushing into training without proper screening can increase risk unnecessarily.

DBS & First Aid: especially for vulnerable clients

If you are:
• A vulnerable adult
• Managing illness or disability
• Bringing a minor to train

You should expect:
• Up-to-date First Aid
• A valid DBS

DBS checks are an investment - and I maintain mine annually so it remains live and accessible. (It is also cheaper to keep it live than pay for a new one regularly!)

It’s about safeguarding, professionalism, and trust.

Day 27 on AIP elimination;

AIP has been incredibly positive for me. I’m actually enjoying it - I feel great, my tummy feels better, I’m not bloated after eating, and my energy is so much more level.

I’ve lost 10kg now. Yes, it’s a lot in a short time, but I’ve been eating regularly and well, drinking even more water (and I already drank a lot), and I’m not craving sugar at all.

It’s been such a positive shift that I’m not sure I want to go back to how I was before. My next period will be interesting to see how the pain and everything else that goes with it is - the last one was a breeze and I’d only just started the elimination!

That said, I’m excited for the next phase; reintroducing foods so I can have a little more variety. Once I’ve worked through that, I’ll be focusing on maintaining this long term and slowly adding things in that support it. I’ve got some recipes I’m really looking forward to too 🤍 for now it’s something green, something orange and fish. I’ve also stopped forcing myself to try eat breakfast (something I’ve never liked anyway) and will start to try it again when I have more variety of foods to eat!

So pleased I found .richards and .womenshealth

A little bit more from Emily herself;

I am a 23 year old Dressage Rider from Norfolk, currently competing at U25 Grand Prix. Previously I have competed for GB at junior level and worked abroad for the Hoffmann's in Denmark as a rider. I was fortunate enough to be selected for the National Academy for three consecutive years and won the area festival finals at Inter 1 in 2025.

I injured my back in 2021 and started working with Sophie in 2022 to help with my back pain and my riding. She has helped me become pain free and a much more equal and balanced rider.

Insurance: protection for both of us

Insurance isn’t exciting, but it is essential.

I carry my own public liability insurance (up to £10 million), and I pay more than many trainers because of:
• The qualifications I hold
• The populations I work with
• The scope of my practice

My insurer requires proof of education.

That means if something were ever to happen, I can demonstrate that I was qualified to deliver the service provided.

If you’re working with a PT, you can absolutely ask:
“Do you hold your own public liability insurance?”

Even in a commercial gym setting, having individual cover is an important layer of professionalism.
