Fun Feet Fact for the First of the Month……
Did you know your fingernails grow faster than your toenails? Have you noticed that a damaged big toenail takes forever to grow out?
The reasons…….
Fingernails can grow up to twice as fast as toenails. This is because toenails receive less blood flow, because they are further from the heart and they experience more pressure from walking and footwear.
A toenail journey entails:
1 - 4 weeks: a thin protective layer forms over the nail bed.
2 - 3 months: you will notice the start of new nail growth.
6 - 9 months: the nail will be approximately half way grown.
12 - 18 months: complete regrowth of the toenail.
Toenails grow at around 1mm per month, therefore it will take approximately 12 months for a blackened or discoloured nail to grow out.
A long time isn’t it. Be patient keep them trimmed regularly and seek advice if needed! 👣
