The feedback that I get from my clients is generally very positive about the maternity services staff at NUH so it's interesting to see that they unfortunately still require improvement. But I do suspect that this may be the same for a lot, if not most trusts up and down the country so please don't let it worry you too much. But remember that you always have a choice over where you wish to birth.

Today, March 4, the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report into our maternity services was published.

We remain committed to continued improvement in our maternity services and recognise that there is more work to do following the publication of our latest CQC report.

The report from the healthcare regulator, which reviewed maternity services at Nottingham City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in May 2025, found that there had been no change in the Trust’s overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ for maternity services.

The CQC were complimentary of the care provided, and recognised the positive comments of the women and families using the services, explaining that patients had ‘nothing but praise’ for the staff they were cared for by. But did also also identify some vitally important areas in which they required us to improve, including in safety, culture and leadership.

We take the feedback from the CQC very seriously. We are working to address the issues raised in the latest inspection.

Every time that I see this memory come up, it makes me smile.
My clever little boy emulating me, by taking it upon himself to give an impromptu antenatal lesson to his class at aged 4. I'm sure the 15 year old him now would die at the thought.
But it's a good reminder to be careful of what you talk about around your children. They are always taking in everything you say, even if it doesn't look like it 😄

The car was so full of props for my Christmas baby classes today, that this big boy had to ride shotgun with me. I'm sure my fellow road users thought I was crazy 🤪.

If you have been in any of my antenatal classes over the past 11 years you will know this is not news to me. But every time we get scientific evidence, it helps to add these beneficial and magical moments as standard to our births. Hayley Xx

👶 Skin-to-skin contact involves placing the naked newborn on the mother’s uncovered chest immediately after birth. This simple practice helps babies adapt to life outside the womb, keeping them warm, reducing stress and crying, and supporting vital functions such as breathing and heart rate.

New Cochrane evidence confirms what many already practice: immediate skin-to-skin contact between newborns and their mothers gives babies a better start in life.

Babies held skin-to-skin within the first hour after birth are more likely to:

🩵 Breastfeed exclusively
🩵 Maintain healthy body temperature and blood sugar
🩵 Breathe and adapt better outside the womb

Importantly, the evidence is now so strong that researchers argue it’s no longer ethical to conduct studies that separate mothers and babies after birth.

“Withholding skin-to-skin contact would now be considered unethical, as there is enough evidence to show that the practice improves newborn health and survival,” says Karin Cadwell, senior author and Executive Director and Lead Faculty of
Healthy Children Project Center for Breastfeeding.

I've seen so many gorgeous back to, or first day of school post this week from some of my previous clients.
It is so wonderful to see all of these children that I met as bumps or newborns, grow up and thrive.

But I have been reminded through these pictures, that my very first antenatal class babies are turning 11 over the next few weeks and are entering year 6!

Where on earth has that time gone? I can't be that old can I 🤣

Good luck to all of my inHale (or Daisy for you oldies) babies whatever year of school you are starting. I know you will all be fabulous 🥰.

I'm probably late to the party on this. But I am visiting the new Starbucks on the A52 just outside of Radcliffe, as a last day of holidays treat for my daughter.

And look at all the beautiful space 🥰. How amazing would this be as the venue for the post baby class coffee meet? So much room for your prams, while mums enjoy a caffeine based treat and a natter.

Perfect for when my Saxondale classes return in two weeks time.
