Did you know that you're allowed to change your mind in therapy?

As therapists, we welcome conversations about what you want, and what works for you.

🚫You can change the subject if it feels too painful.

🪑You can slow down, take a break, sit instead of walk, or decide that a different approach feels better for you.

Walk and talk therapy is flexible by design. Your comfort, consent, and safety always come first.

Therapy doesn’t have to be serious all the time, and doesn't always look like deep eye contact and intense conversation like the films would have us believe.

Sometimes it looks like walking, noticing your surroundings, and letting thoughts come and go.

Walk and talk therapy can feel more spacious, more natural, and less pressured for many people, so there’s room for lightness, curiosity, and even moments of quiet.

Healing doesn’t always have to be heavy to be meaningful.

There’s something different about talking while walking side-by-side.

For some people, it reduces pressure, softens self-consciousness, and allows thoughts to flow more freely.

Eye contact becomes optional, and attention can gently shift between conversation and the environment.

This is why walk and talk therapy can be especially helpful when discussing difficult topics or when words feel hard to access.

YES!!

This has been me at various points in my life; and can present itself as a sense of "I didn't do that very well" or "that could've been better". Can you relate?

From a therapeutic point of view, this often happens when growth becomes your new normal.

The coping skills that once took all your energy, have now become habits.

So instead of celebrating progress, we move the goalpost, again and again, thinking that means we’re “not there yet.”

But raising the bar isn’t failure.

If you have a moment in the weeks ahead where you feel behind, I invite you to pause and ask:

✨ What would have been impossible for me a year ago that I do with ease now?
✨ What did I once tolerate that I no longer accept?

Progress doesn’t always feel like a single breakthrough, sometimes it feels like forgetting how hard things used to be.

And that, too, is growth. 🌱

Anxiety is the brain’s attempt to control uncertainty - it’s your nervous system scanning for threats 💀⚡💣

Trust is the skill of tolerating it.

You don’t need everything figured out; your nervous system just needs to feel safe enough to take the next step.

Trust isn’t knowing the outcome — it’s believing you can handle it as it comes, and teaching your body that uncertainty isn’t danger.

This is me...… and its my priority that your first walk-and-talk therapy session is focused on comfort and consent.

We discuss pacing, boundaries, privacy, and what feels supportive for you. Routes are chosen thoughtfully, and flexibility is always part of the process.

You’re welcome to stop, sit, or change plans as needed. Therapy should adapt to you, not the other way around.

If you’re curious, you’re welcome to reach out and ask questions.

A common concern I hear is: “What if I don’t know what to say in therapy?”

Person Centred Therapy, whether indoors or outdoors, is a collaborative process, so that means we go at your pace, following what feels most important to you that day.

In walk-and-talk sessions, pauses, silences, and simply walking are all welcome parts of the process.... you can take your time to find the right words, say what feels natural.

If you’ve been curious but hesitant, you’re not alone, and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about walk and talk, or therapy in general.

These five are taken from Buddhist beliefs, consisting of right understanding, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.

These principles guide Buddhists on their spiritual journey and help them lead a more fulfilling life. What else would you add?!

A relatable way to understand the benefits of talking about how you're feeling!

I'd also add:

đź’¨ They can be sudden, unexpected and powerful!
đź’¨ They can have a strong impact on those around you!
đź’¨ They're often involuntary and hard to control!
đź’¨ They can be a source of comedy in some situations!

And finally....

…expressing them can lead to a great sense of relief!

We were all children once upon a time, exposed to the language of adults around us, and those words stick!

Children rarely question labels, they become them.

“Shy” - “Too sensitive” - “Difficult” - “Lazy”

They weren’t just comments — they became stories about who we are, but they were momentary observations, made without context.

Try rewriting them for yourself (and your children):

You were never the label, you were a child doing their best.

Therapy doesn’t always have to happen on a couch.

Walk-and-talk therapy takes place outdoors where movement and nature support the therapeutic process.

Walking side-by-side can feel less intense than sitting face-to-face, making it easier for some people to open up, reflect, and think clearly.

For many, it’s a gentle way to work on anxiety, stress, life transitions, or feeling stuck—while also caring for the body.

If traditional therapy settings haven’t felt quite right, this may be another option to explore.
