The NHS has launched a new online self-assessment tool for women who experience a bleed or spotting they’ve been through the menopause and who are not on HRT. It's for women in Bury, Salford, Oldham, Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale. Any bleeding from your va**na after the menopause (when your periods have been stopped for 12 months or more) should be checked out to rule out possible womb cancer. You can now do this without booking an appointment with a GP. Simply answer a few questions on the online self-assessment tool to request a hospital check. bit.ly/NHSPMBTool

The practice may have asked you to attend Oldham Community Blood Clinic to arrange a blood test. We will have given you the telephone number to contact them to arrange an appointment and also your blood labels and bag to take to your appointment. This is to ensure that the results come back to the practice. The address is:

Monday 09.02.26 - Friday 13.02.26 The path lab will be closed due to a system re-fit. We will be unable to book any appointment for blood tests or accept any samples during this time. the system will be back up and running from Monday 16th February 2026

Wednesday 11th February The practice will close at 1.00pm for training and re-open at 8.00am on Thursday 12th February at 8.00am as normal. If you are need of urgent assistance during this time, please contact NHS111, if you are in a medical emergency 999.

Safe Sleep in Cold Weather

In winter, it can be tempting to wrap up your baby to keep them warm while sleeping. It’s important to remember that babies can overheat. It’s safer for them to be a little cool than too hot.

Keep the room at 16-20°C, dress baby in light layers and use lightweight bedding/ baby sleeping bag.

Avoid

Hats indoors

Thick bedding/ weighted blankets

Hot water bottles

Placing baby next to a radiator

Check baby’s chest to ensure they’re not too hot. If they’re sweaty, remove a layer of clothing

An NHS report has revealed the number of people in hospital is more than 50% higher than this time last year. An average of 1700 patients were in hospital beds with FLU in England each day during the last week of November 2025, including around 69 in critical care.

Hopwood House Medical Practice fully supports the Seasonal Flu Vaccination Programme and encourages our patients who are eligible and have received an invite to uptake the offer of the flu vaccination. The vaccination is available during the flu season September to March and even if you have declined to have your dose, you can still change your mind.

If you have received your invite, please contact the surgery to arrange an appointment for your Flu Vaccination or if you are unsure if you are eligible our staff will be happy to check for you.
