A magical day at Dovestone Reservoir 🌲🍄
Today we wandered through misty pine forests, spotted the striking red fly agaric mushrooms, and took in the beautiful views over the water.
We also added our wishes to the ancient money tree — gently hammering coins into the wood as people have done for centuries.
Wishing trees are part of old British folklore, where people leave offerings — coins, ribbons, or cloth — as a way of sending their hopes, dreams, or prayers into nature. Each coin represents a wish, and together they tell a story of hope, kindness, and connection through generations.
We ended our day with toasted marshmallows by the fire, warm hands and happy hearts 🔥
A day filled with friendship, folklore, and forest magic 💚✨

🎃 WILD Forest School – October Half Term Holiday Club! 🍂

This October, join us for a week full of Halloween fun, outdoor adventures, and creative play!

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be using the sports hall, playground, and the great outdoors at Greenfield Primary — giving children the best of both worlds, come rain or shine!

✨ Dates: Monday 27th – Friday 31st October
🕘 Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm
👧 Ages: 5–14 years
📍 Location: Greenfield Primary School
💰 Cost: £35 per day
🌳 Wraparound Care: 8:30am–4:00pm available for £15 extra

Children will enjoy:
🎃 Halloween-themed games & crafts
🔥 Campfire cooking & forest fun
🌲 Outdoor exploration & teamwork challenges
🎨 Creative play, sports & indoor activities

We’re excited to share that this half term, WILD Forest School will be based at Greenfield Primary School, where we’ll have full use of the sports hall and playground! 🎉

That means fun indoors and outdoors – whatever the weather! ☔☀️
Children can explore, create, and play freely with plenty of space for games, crafts, and adventure.

🌲🍄 Magical Finds on Our Home Education Day! 🍄🌲

Today our adventurers discovered something straight out of a fairytale – the Fly Agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria)! With its bright red cap and white spots, it’s one of the most iconic toadstools in the world.

🔍 We learned that:
✨ They often grow near birch and pine trees.
✨ They are toxic if eaten, so we admire them with our eyes only.
✨ They play an important role in the woodland ecosystem, helping trees stay strong and healthy.

The children were fascinated – spotting, sketching, and sharing their ideas about woodland magic and folklore. 🍂🧚

🌿 At WILD we love how nature sparks curiosity, creativity, and learning in every corner of the forest.

🍂 WILD Home Ed Adventures 🍂

Today was all about autumn magic at Forest School! 🌳✨

We discovered how amazing conkers are – not just for games, but for making our very own eco-friendly washing detergent 🧺🌿. The children loved chopping, soaking, and learning how nature can give us everything we need. It was such a brilliant way to link science and sustainability in a hands-on activity.

We also got creative, threading shiny conkers into beautiful wreaths and decorations 🍁🎨. including a conker heart full of love ❤️.

Of course, no Forest School day is complete without gathering around the fire 🔥 – sharing stories, laughter, and enjoying the warmth together.
