🪓🎣Today at WILD Active (Ages 7+)…
We got stuck into some serious skills – crafting their own Tenkara fishing spear models using traditional wood whittling techniques! 🎣🪵

Inspired by Japanese Tenkara fishing, the children shaped, smoothed, and designed their wooden spears by hand – some even burnt unique symbols into the wood using safe tool techniques. The results were amazing!

We’re proud to give older children meaningful, hands-on outdoor experiences that build confidence, creativity, and independence.

🌿 WILD Forest School – A Day of Adventure and Imagination! 🌿

Today our WILD Forest School children set off on an exciting walk to Greenfield Park, where they:

🧹 Helped care for nature by litter picking
💦 Had so much fun splashing in the stream and exploring the water and played in the park! 🛝

Back at camp, their creativity and teamwork came to life with:

🛠️ Robot building using real tools and loose parts 🏕️ Den building and imaginative role play ⚽ Sports and games to burn off extra energy! 🔥 Fire lighting followed by delicious marshmallow toasting.

Every moment was packed with learning, laughter, and hands-on fun in nature 🌱💚

🚨 WILD Active meets the Emergency Services! 🚒🚑🚓

Today was an unforgettable adventure at Dovestone! Our WILD Active explorers had the amazing opportunity to meet real-life heroes from the Fire Operations Group (F.O.G), Mountain Rescue, the Fire Service, and RSPB.

🔥 They learned about the vital role each service plays in protecting our environment and keeping people safe in the hills.
🚒 The children climbed into fire engines, sat in mountain rescue vehicles, tried out helmets, and even sounded the sirens and horns!
🗣️ With engaging talks and hands-on activities, the kids were completely immersed in the world of emergency response and nature conservation.

A huge thank you to all the professionals who gave their time and made it such an inspiring day for our young adventurers! 🌿👏

WILD Holiday Club – Day 2 🌿
WILD Active covered nearly 8 miles today on an epic adventure! They hiked, geocached, tackled “Would You Rather – Gross Edition,” and took on fun quizzes before sliding down a massive hill on sledges! 🥾🛷🧭 ☔️

Back at Forest School, children enjoyed a creative and nature-filled day at camp — crafting, whittling, den building, playing games, and toasting marshmallows around the fire. They also cared for our baby frogs and helped create new habitats to support their growth. 🐸💧🌿🔥

🌿✨ Wild Plant of the Week: Herb Robert ✨🌿
📚 Part of today’s home education adventure with WILD Forest School!

We discovered this beautiful wildflower – Herb Robert – while exploring the meadows of Saddleworth. The children were brilliant at spotting its pink petals among the thistles and grasses. 🌸

🟣 Delicate pink flowers
🍃 Fern-like leaves (often red-tipped!)
👃 Smells strong – no wonder it’s nicknamed Stinky Bob!

Used in traditional herbal medicine and loved by bees, Herb Robert is a plant full of character and folklore. We talked about how it was once believed to protect homes from bad spirits and how its bright colour attracts pollinators.

☔ St Swithin’s Day… and it’s absolutely pouring! ☔

According to folklore, if it rains today, we’re in for 40 days of it — and by the looks of the sky, St Swithin’s just shouted “Challenge accepted!” 🌧️😅

But don’t worry — at WILD, we say bring it on! We’re swapping sunhats for ponchos and turning Forest School into WILD Water School! 💦🐾

That means more puddle jumping, muddy play, wet-weather crafts and tarp shelters galore. Because a bit of rain never stops us — it just makes the adventure even better! 🌿🛶
