Had a lovely compliment today at the group I visit for people with disabilities. One of the service users is confined to a wheelchair and is pretty immobile with all his limbs. He usually gets taken out of the session about half way through but I was never told why. Today, one of the staff said that he’d asked to stay for the whole session this morning. He usually leaves so he can have bed rest so he doesn’t get pressure sores, but he wanted to stay and have his bed rest later on. I was very moved that he wanted to stay, he’s got the most amazing smile so it was lovely to see it for a bit longer this morning. And he managed to catch the beach ball, hold the parachute and shake a tambourine, so a great morning for him. And me! 🎶💃❤️

I’m feeling a little emotional today after doing my afternoon session. This was at the first home that booked me in their diary after a taster session when I started doing Kiddleydivey. Today was the last time I provided a session for them due to my relocation in March. Some of the residents have been there since the beginning, other lovely friends are no longer with us and have been replaced by new friends over the 5 years I’ve been going there. They understood my reason for leaving and wished me well. I’ll miss all of them very much, it’s going to be a tough few weeks I think. 🎶💃❤️

Back at my weekly Tuesday home to find a lady who has recently moved into the home causing a little bit of upset to the staff. Apparently she’s been quite agitated and constantly asks to go home. Although she was in her room when I started the session, she came into the lounge and sat down as we were singing “If you were the only girl in the world” She started singing the song and then told me that her father used to sing that song to her mother, especially when the lady herself was born! It was lovely to hear her special memory and she seemed to settle down, at least whilst the rest of the session continued, and although she didn’t want any props or to hold hands, she sang a few more songs quietly to herself. It was great to see the power of music working once more! 🎶💃❤️

I had a lovely vote of confidence today. I was at a home that I haven’t visited since 2017, but they rang and asked me to go again which was lovely. When I went in the lounge there were faces I recognised as well as some I hadn’t seen before. One lady who I had met previously was sitting in her chair and I went up to say hello. She seemed pleased to see me but told me that she didn’t have any singing left in her anymore. She didn’t join in with much of the session but I went up to her and held her hands during one of the songs. She put her hand on my face and drew me in towards her and said “you’re doing your best “ I think she meant it to be a compliment, but I wasn’t quite sure how to take the comment. It was still lovely to see her again though 💃🎶❤️

Had a comment I’ve not heard before at my session this afternoon. A new lady was sitting in a quiet corner of the home with her daughter who was visiting. I went to say hello and invite her to the session and introduced myself as Kathryn from Kiddleydivey. “Is that in Wales?” she asked. Love it! 💃🎶❤️

Had a lovely, lively session yesterday afternoon. After I finished the set, I found a clip of Louis Armstrong for the gentleman who was disappointed last week. The gentleman was absolutely delighted, gave me a kiss and said he was really happy and I’d made his day. Result! Job done 💃🎶❤️
