🍃 What is Yoga Therapy? 🍃
Yoga Therapy is a stand alone approach to making people feel that little bit better as a holistic paradigm… but I sometimes say if you cut me OT would bleed 😂
I combine all that I learnt as an OT with all that I’m learning in Yoga Therapy to explore & experiment tailor made practices to each clients presentation.
In a Yoga Therapy 1:1 we may explore:
🍃 Habit & Change: How to check in with ourselves, self-regulate our reaction to stress, develop insight into our routine thoughts, feeling and behaviours.
🍃 Awareness: Using sound, imagery, bodily sensations, breath, emotions and mantras to move towards stillness.
🍃 Feelings: Noticing low or high energy, feeling unsafe, restlessness, tension and cultivating positive emotions such as gratitude, joy, compassion, friendliness to the self and others.
🍃 Words & Thoughts: Observing the stories we tell ourselves about life / our bodies. Being aware of labelling parts of our body as, 'I have a bad shoulder' and 'I can't do that because...".
🍃 Movement & Pain: Learning about the anatomy of the spine, stability and mobility. Engaging in movement and exploring alignment. Seated strengthening and supported standing movements, graded and adapted for all.
🍃 Breathing: Awareness of breath, observing excess effort, tension, unpleasantness. Leaning into easy, pleasant breaths and combining this with movement.
🍃 Senses and Lifestyle: The role of routines, rituals, sleep and responding to the change in seasons.
🍃 Nutrition: Understanding gut health and improving relationships to nourishment from food as fuel and not just pleasure.
🍃 Relationships: Cultivating connection, observing patterns from childhood and later and why women find saying no so difficult.
🍃 Life Path: Reflections and insights on personal life choices and processing life circumstances befalling attendees each week.
