This week we’re launching the Calm Ahead Spicy Space!

An informal, safe space for families of neurodiverse children and those with additional needs to come together share their journeys and connect with others.

Calm Ahead CIC is excited to introduce a brand‑new group created for neurodivergent individuals, families, and anyone navigating life with additional needs.

Built on lived experience, genuine empathy, and our commitment to making Oldham a more inclusive place, this group offers a space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Living with neurodiversity, whether Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s, sensory differences, or other additional needs, often means moving through the world with a beautifully neurospicy brain: full of unique strengths, perspectives, and ways of thinking, alongside challenges that can feel overwhelming.

Many families and individuals tell us they often feel isolated, unsure where to turn, or exhausted from having to explain themselves. This group exists to change that.

We want you to leave your masks at the door, but don't forget your ear defenders!

It’s wonderful to see the new bike shelter being used by the children at St Hugh's CofE Primary School.

Relax Kids Oldham had the pleasure of introducing First Choice Homes Oldham to the school last year after arranging a litter pick with the children. It’s wonderful to have been a part of this collaboration.

I’ve always read to my children and now read regularly to my grandchildren.
Reading for pleasure is a lovely way to relax and sets a good example for children to see but reading to a child is a delight as you get a cuddle as well if you’re lucky 🥰

'I can’t tell you who was breastfed, but I can tell you who was read to.'

According to teacher and education speaker Mr P, the one thing that makes the biggest difference in the classroom? Reading. At home. With you.

Whether it’s ten minutes before bed, the same book on repeat, or a bleary-eyed story with dodgy accents – what really matters is showing your child that words matter. That they matter.

You’re not just reading a book. You’re building confidence. Vocabulary. Imagination. A lifelong love of learning.

And it’s never too late to start. Do you agree?
