🌹SUPER STRONG STANDING🌹
We had a fabulous therapy session this morning, using the Kyrios suit, hypervibe and standsure to support help with tone management and proprioceptive feedback when standing.
Whilst standing might seem like an easy task, it takes a lot of control, muscle strength and coordination to achieve and for a child with cerebral palsy this is incredibly difficult. Standing takes practice. Standing takes strength.
When you're standing, you're working on:
✔️ Head control - being able to lift and hold the head up right
✔️ Next strength - in order to keep a forward gaze
✔️ Trunk control - including working your deep abdominal muscles, your back extensors and your obliques for balance
✔️ Lower limb strength - including your hip extensors - to keep your hips from collapsing, your hip abductors - To prevent your knees, collapsing inward, your knee extensors - to prevent your knees, buckling, and your ankle plantarflexors - to provide ankle stability
Standing and weight bearing is vital to ensure optimal bone development, to prevent contractors, maintain hip stability, to support lung expansion and rib cage mobility, for improved digestion and reduced constipation, it helps with circulation and also has so many social and cognitive benefits!
I was so proud of you today little lady! 🌹
