700 Days since my last drink - 100 Weekends - a century of hangover-free Sunday mornings. A century of Friday & Saturday nights that I actually remember. I haven’t come this far, to only come this far.

REMEMBER that night in Tokyo ? 🇯🇵 - Nope, not really! Met up with one of my best mates who lives in Aus, when we were both in Japan for RWC19. Was great to see him - but have absolutely no idea about what we did or said after the first couple of hours 🍺🍻🍺… that makes me sad. I see him every 2/3 years at best, but when I did, I drank so much I don’t remember any of it. 🥲

“Get comfortable being uncomfortable” - I find myself saying this to myself more and more. We are so used to changing our behaviour to make life comfortable, even if long term those changes aren’t right. We can allow ourselves to believe that we are entitled to always be ‘comfortable’ - whether physically or mentally. Once we accept that being uncomfortable and be healthy then things become less of an issue. Becoming comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable is then very powerful. Try it. You might like it!

Who doesn’t love a wedding? Who can actually remember any of them? Weddings were my absolute binge-drinking kryptonite. The perfect combination of an early-start, celebratory atmosphere, no focus on my drinking, friends, family… I convinced myself it was the perfect storm and was totally acceptable to get smashed. So I did. Usually ended badly with huge spells of total memory loss / black out and a few hours wrapped around the toilet in the early hours.

Look at my son, looking at me. This was taken on the Bank Holiday weekend in 2017 - I’d always make sure all 3 days of a BH were “celebrated”. The Tuesday afterwards would be a hellish mix of tiredness, anxiety, regret and remorse - not to mention the physical affects of treating my body like sh*t.

This morning I was up at 0630 and out with the dog 🐶 - I’m fresh and my head is clear. With one of the busiest weeks of my working life ahead of me, I’m grateful for where I am today. # AFlife

Strong crew from the glory days of Oxford United. Have so much time for these exceptional humans but I really wasn’t looking after myself in 2015 - no exercise, terrible diet, binge drinking at weekends. Looking back at photos now I was struggling but couldn’t see it at the time.
