New to Contact Lenses? Here’s How to Start Safely!
Wearing contact lenses for the first time can be exciting — but proper hygiene and care are essential for eye health. Here are 5 tips every beginner should know:
1. Always Wash and Dry Your Hands First
Use soap and water before handling your lenses to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Use Fresh Contact Lens Solution Daily
Never reuse or “top off” old solution. Clean and store lenses as directed to avoid harmful bacteria.
3. Follow the Recommended Replacement Schedule
Whether daily, bi-weekly, or monthly lenses — replacing them on time helps prevent eye complications.
4. Don’t Sleep in Lenses Unless Approved
Overnight wear increases the risk of corneal infections unless you’re using lenses specifically designed for extended wear.
5. Be Patient With the Learning Curve
It may take a few tries to get comfortable. If you experience redness, pain, or blurred vision — remove your lenses and contact your eye care provider.
