Just a thought - the importance of professionalism and mindfulness in the beauty industry.
A recent run-in with a particularly horrific "spa experience" in Turkey left me thinking about certain aspects of the customer journey that can often be so easily forgotten in today's busy spas and salons.
In any treatment space, hygiene and health & safety should always be upheld to the highest standard. Reusing towels or tools between clients in something I've seen normalised in my time as a therapist - a sign of how rushed some spas and salons can get. When treatments are hurried, they feel impersonal and they lose their purpose. Instead of feeling relaxed or refreshed, you leave the experience disappointed or deflated, especially when you factor in the financial cost involved in attending a spa.
For many people, having a treatment can already feel a little intimidating - after all, you're placing your trust in someone's hands, whether that is for a manicure or a full body massage. That trust deserves presence, intention and professionalism.
A treatment should not feel rushed or choreographed. A treatment should make you feel seen, safe and cared for. Professionalism isn't just about skill; it's about respect - for the client, the craft, and for the space we create for healing.
