This is a true celebration and probably
the best kind of example of what I consider to be the very upmost and most rewarding aspect of my work. This is also a post I have been looking forward to and am so very chuffed to be writing, because I know all to well of the long journey and how much it all means.
Today , my first client of the day is none less than Mr Andy Lamb, as the date has come to reunite with him for his usual monthly recovery / maintenance treatment. Except this is no ordinary monthly treatment.
The term “Legend “ is often inappropriately and casually dispensed these days, but since our last appointment and his final prep treatment, a monumental goal has been accomplished! I am really looking forward to seeing my long term friend and client with a new found respect and pride this morning as he has joined the ranks of the incredible by completing the famous Montane Lakeland 50 Ultra.
Andy’s family are very lovely and we go back quite a long way. Let me tell you, to be in a room with his proud family this morning as they debriefed me on their experience tracking him and supporting his efforts whilst simultaneously hearing Andy cut in with epic little memories and stories that describe the journey, wow, I could almost live it out and I was in total awe. In fact, it was impossible not to feel quite emotional with them. An amazing congratulations poster (hand made by his family) featured snap shots and images and alongside Andy’s narrative, was simply incredible to see and hear. This is a special one this is ! It’s a result for all of us that put the graft in and occasionally get the shot at something truly incredible.
I’ve been very fortunate to work with many endurance athletes at many levels in my work and I’ve seen them come and go for prep and when they return (hopefully victorious!) for recovery treatments, from some of the biggest events in the world. It’s always brilliant albeit surreal ..(sometimes daunting and nerve wracking!) to be a little part of the support group and as thus , their journey.
Andy is one of those ace guys within the local running community that is well known and respected by so many and it’s a total win when we see these type of achievements. Andy won’t mind me sharing with you that his prep was far from text book perfect and it was always going to be a huge challenge,
Andy’s words from his Strava account:-
“Montane Lakeland 50, almost 24 hours of continuous pootling over some seriously tough terrain, feet are now absolutely shredded but me and my mate Mark finished it 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 I’m well chuffed that at 62 years of age this old bu**er can still physically pass the test”.
But…It’s so much more than that though, this is inspirational stuff ! His mentality is that of a fighter and I knew he was never going there to fail. Together with another legend and good friend Mark Walsh, they battled night and day over massive elevation and multi terrain (both technical and challenging) and won both the mental and physical battle to get through this total beast and do both thier families and the running community incredibly proud.
I know Andy, I know the journey continues for Andy. He’s far from done! No spoilers from me but what I can say is that he is planning further epic adventures and I am very proud to call him a friend and continue to have him as a client. I look forward to supporting him in upcoming future conquests and all that is left to say is that tonight I raise a glass and say “Well done Lamby…Bloody Legend!”
Very proud of you 👏
