George loves writing poems and this year he has found his love of writing songs. He wrote a song for Mo who he met the first day she arrived, she gave him a pasty and he said it's the biggest pasty he'd ever had and decided to write a song about it. Mo was so happy with the song she said " That's lovely George, thankyou" 😊
George uses his talent for writing poems and songs to celebrate residents and carers. He appeared happy and confident while sharing his work.

Today for International Women’s Day we asked the wonderful ladies in our home a simple question…
“What advice would you give to women today?”
Well… the answers didn’t disappoint! 😄
Some of the top pearls of wisdom included:
💜 Always have your own money
💜 Stand on your own two feet
💜 Don’t rely on a man to look after you
💜 Work hard but make sure you enjoy life too
There were plenty of laughs, a few cheeky comments, and lots of stories from years of life experience. It was such a lovely way to celebrate the strong, independent and inspiring women we are lucky enough to spend our days with.
Safe to say… these ladies definitely know a thing or two about life! 💪💜

🌊⚓ A Proper Cornish Afternoon at Lavender Court ⚓🌊
This afternoon we were treated to something very special by our very own resident storyteller and songwriter, George.
George kindly gave us a wonderful talk about the history of Saint Piran, sharing his knowledge and stories about Cornwall’s much-loved patron saint. The room was full of interest (and a few nods of Cornish pride!).
Not only that, George then entertained us with some of the sea shanty songs he has written himself — and before long the room was ringing with voices as we all joined in singing Trelawny and This Is My Cornwall.
One resident proudly declared, “I’m Cornish — I need to sing!” and that was all the encouragement we needed.
To finish our lovely afternoon, we enjoyed some traditional Saffron Cake, which went down an absolute treat.
A beautiful afternoon full of music, storytelling, and true Cornish spirit.
Thank you, George, for sharing your talents with us 💛

🐴💕 Donkey Therapy… and a Few Wobbly Bottom Lips! 💕🐴
This morning we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming John from Flicka Donkey Sanctuary — and what a beautiful start to our day it was.
John told us all about how the sanctuary began and how many donkeys they’ve rescued and adopted over the years. We watched some lovely video clips on the projector… and let’s just say there were a few suspiciously watery eyes in the lounge 👀🥹
One resident said, “That was so beautiful, I cried.”
It sparked so many conversations about countryside memories, animals we’ve loved, and growing up around farms. A proper heart-warming, feel-good morning — with just the right amount of emotional donkey drama.
Huge thank you to John for spending time with us — you’ve officially melted Lavender Court. 💛

🎳✨ Skittles, Cheers & A Very Proud Moment ✨🎳
Things got very competitive at Lavender Court today during our skittles session — who knew we had so many secret professionals in the building? 😏😂
There was cheering, gentle “encouragement” (ahem), and a lot of determination to knock every last pin down!
A particularly special moment came when one of our lovely new residents, who has sight loss, joined in. With a little support, he explored the ball with his hands, got a good feel for it, lined himself up… and rolled.
The room filled with cheers from the ladies when he took his turn 🥹💛
It was one of those moments you wish you’d caught on camera — pure encouragement, inclusion and community spirit.
Activities aren’t just about the game… they’re about confidence, belonging and celebrating every single achievement — big or small.
Well done team Lavender Court… competitive, supportive and just a tiny bit dramatic 😉🎳

🛠️✈️ From “I’m Bored” to Master Engineer! ✈️🛠️
Today one of our gentlemen told me he was bored but didn’t quite know what he wanted to do.
So… out came the Meccano set.
Safe to say, he wasn’t overly impressed at first
But once I started unpacking the box and laying everything out, something clicked…
He spotted the screws.
Then the wheels.
Then the screwdriver
And that was it — we were off!
For the next hour and a half we sat side by side building an aeroplane together. He concentrated, problem solved, assembled parts independently and even created his own little builds from the extra pieces.
We didn’t quite finish the plane (we may have “borrowed” a few bits for other inventions along the way ), but what we did build was focus, engagement, and a real sense of achievement.
Sometimes “I’m bored” just needs the right box opening.

Today Louise told me
“I’m not much of a talker, but I do like to listen… and I get bored easily!”
Ok Challenge accepted
Out came the Boots memory box and memory spotlight box, which sparked plenty of chat (so much for not being a talker ). We then cracked on with a puzzle, before long Louise launched into singing hymns like she was headlining the Lavender Court arena
Alexa was promptly summoned and a hymn playlist followed, boredom officially defeated,
And because no good day is complete without a bit of self-care, Louise also enjoyed having her nails done 💅
Memories, music, laughter and lovely nails — now that’s how we do person-centred care 😊
